My First Serious Demo Recording - 1991

Post by wta » Sat Nov 29, 2008 2:28 pm

I thought for fun I'd though this bone out, for fun. I still to this day play this tune live and have been working on a modern recording as well. This was my first studio session way back, man its funny to look back... I felt sharing some history with me mates might be cool, I'd stick in the tape deck if you where over to the house but cause y'all are, well... not over to the house I'll post her here. Critique it if you feel like it, hell why not... www.williamthomasanderson.com/w2/a_sad_day_91.mp3 cheers, ;-) wta

Nice idea - a little holiday "memory sharing" on the forum. I'll have to dig up some of my 90s era recordings tomorrow and post 'em.

Man that is going to kill me now.Ah, the beauty of digging up our first borns huh? This really isn't too bad, and for 1991, kind of fits in to the drastic change in the mainstream we all witnessed. Its a nice melodic tune WTA. Sleepy, but still kept my attention. Man, I just can't place who you sound like! Dammit! Song is a little long from a commercial perspective, but who cares right? Lead guitar killed me a bit though William. Not all of it, but some of those notes just weren't quite there. Dammit man will you just tell me who you sound like on this! Please!!!!!! You sound like, at least on this tune, you were intentionally trying to sound like this guy and I can't believe I can't place it!Thanks for sharing man! Listening to the mood of this really takes me back to that era.

Thats funny stephen, I actually sounded that way vocally naturally. I was totally untrained and had NO clue how tie my shoes let along right great rock tunes. I had three guys who I commonly where a la'ed and they were Eddy Vedder/Pearl Jam, Scott Stapp/Creed and Brad Roberts/Crash Test Dummies... I've had some serious vocal training since then and thankfully have 3+ octaves as apossed to my 1+ back then. Pitch was another great skill to pick up, LOL! ;-) wta

Yeah, I can hear all those as an influence my man. When I was listening to this the second time, my buddy walked in and I asked him who you sounded like and he said Weiland, then I told him this predated him, at least commercially.I probably hear Crash Test Dummies vocally more than anything. Maybe one day I will quit being lazy and learn to sing... ...nah. My guitar would kill me in my sleep.

Man, this could still be a good song with a little different treatment! You guys are cracking me up with all of the "way back in the 90's" stuff. I've got some of my songs on an LP (a what?) that I recorded in '72!!!! And it sucks and I'm NOT going to post it!

Used to have a big 'ol T-Rex that pulled the band trailer (the wheel was all the new rage back then). We used to feed him club owners that stiffed us . . . he ate well.
