I really thought that was good enough??? Lotta props to people like yourself on these boards for the progress... More success to you my friend!Peace, GeoI echo what I-468 said. You have improved a great deal since I was away from the boards. Lyrics are much improved and so is the overall songwriting in general.Well done, G!!CiskoThank you Cisko!! The compliment is much appreciated but as I have said before a large portion of credit goes to you'all .... I'd been outa music for more then 10 years.... I've gotten help here for so much.... picking a DAW, external drive, sound libraries, help to fix the glitches, aside from the songwriting/engineering help.... I've never used a forum/chat board of any kind before before...... never thought I could be so grateful to people I have never met!!So thanks again everyone!!!Peace, Geo

hey geo--i dig the bassline, this is my first listen, came in late--hell, sounds 80's to me, nice tune, and hell, you sound like a brit now man...i'd like to hear the rythm guitar early on a bit more centered. the lead later sounds very nice, but again, as it speaks, i'd like it just a bit more centeredvery nice job--oh as most know by now, i also write in lower case, always have--maybe my e.e. cummings pumped into me head in college--really dug/dig him, though actually he really wrote in more of a bastardized sonnet form. and as you ALL know by now, i do the quick reply thing, so i'm not YELLING when i go to the uppers...i'm going to try to listen to cj now...good job geo, the best, warren

Geo,"Make that journey home" is a great title. There's something about the traveling home that's plaintive, even in an upbeat tune. The guitars played well off each other and the bass sounds right to me (I didn't listen to the "popping" version). Especially like the 16-note rhythmic guitar part on the right that was Edge-like. There were some cool melodic leaps and rhythmic surprises that helped sell the song throughout and the vocal harmonies were well done.My only constructive comments: - The drum fills at :09 and :25 sounded a little mechanical to me - At 2:10, during the verse coming out of the guitar break, since you break down somewhat, it seems a little distracting to keep that left guitar sustaining. Maybe experiment with taking it out, lowering the volume, or chopping it up.I do hear the '70s vibe that cj mentions and mostly agree with his comments about the vocals. There were definitely times--louder passages--when the vocalist sounded great to me.Vince

As an avowed fan of the eighties (as am I) you picked out my guitar hero of the decade The Edge.... love his strumming patterns and just the way he approached the guitar... very unique ...I got savaged for my drum programming by a screener not too long ago so I cheated here and copied the drumming on an old rehearsal tape... I see what you mean on the fills.... I think I'll put in a build up after the crash.... similar to the end of the 1st verse and touch up the other one...I agree on the break down part... originally it was just the rhythm guit and the bass doing chords and I think that did work better...On the vocals I'll pass along the compliment... when I first met Mike this is the first song I played for him and right there he wanted in.... that was 15 years ago.... he nailed this one everytime we did it .... great friend too...As for the dated label... like someone else posting on a thread recently.... even with updating I understand some of my stuff will have a retro (like that better) feel... and I'm cool with that... I just want them to be good songs... Thanks again Vince....Peace, Geo

Nothing could be quite as easy, than to drag a MIDI drum loop in your DAW and get an instant drum beat. And after you string along a few different beats & fills, then you've got a whole drum track without a great deal of effort. And you can tweek those MIDI loops to taste. For example, when I want a crash cymbal instead of a hi-hat on the one, I just simply move the hi-hat midi note to the crash cymbal midi note. Simple. And keep moving forward. And then if your pockets can stand it, get your hands on Addictive Drums and you get a little bit more sophistication there. And I think ya' get a lot more MIDI loops to work with too!But either way, you can probably eliminate some of the screener savage by implementing one of the 2 programs in your next new track. Just a thought. HTH.I-468
