Re: Everybody Wants To Get High
Thanks Dave. hey look what I just found -CLASSIC ROCK SONGS a la Janis Joplin, The Byrds, Cream, The Yardbirds, Donovan, Joan Baez, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, The Who, etc. are needed by an established Music Publisher in Los Angeles. This company specializes in Film/TV and has signed & secured placements for many TAXI members. Male or female vocals are just fine for this one, but remember - no profanity. These songs should be original, but with a close "soundalike" quality to the songs and style of the referenced artists. Performances and the sound quality must be excellent (solid demo recordings are okay as long as the quality is there). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received by October 20, 2008.

Re: Everybody Wants To Get High
ok billy--hell, you got nothin' to EVER explain to me, sometimes maybe i'm just "thick as a brick!" actually it was just those three lines i didn't get, they just didn't "scream" at me like the airbase flyin' folks overhead. but still way cool.yeah, and i prefer the hawk of the real variety, like the (well actually a falcon, in SAN JOSE!) that flies around here, and the owl i heard about 5 the other morning when i came out to my cave attached to the garage, and tried to write a friggin' song for the first time in a couple months....didn't get very far, but the owl at barely daybreak found something it liked in what must have been its' last run of the night...!all the best,wh

Bill, This has got to be ala Tom Petty, ala Traveling Wilburys with a touch of ala Bob Dylan! I'm with Steve on the Rick sound and the lyrics have got some depth to them mate... I didn't hear much high harmonies but it just may be my ears at the moment (just out of a mixing session and me ears are fatigued) but I love the feel man, very cool... Oh by the way I totally dig your website man, very cool graphics and easy to navigate... '-) wta
Music is like oxygen, you can live without it but not for very long...

Thanks wta, claire & LinZ. wta, I have to be careful not to get the high parts too loud. I was trying to go for that smooth Byrds high part . . . my voice is, well uh, . . . not smooth . One day as a laugh I should post the high part for this song soloed. It's pretty funny.

Re: Everybody Wants To Get High
Hi BillI always love listening to your tracks! Good one... I would bring the vocal up more in the mix. The guitar riff is very Byrds Mr. Tambourine Man... Too much so? Not sure but it's probably fine. Do you have a 12 string? That would give it even more Byrds flavor. It it's already on a 12 then I apologize for my ears not picking that up. But I'd try to give it that McGuinn sound.I may be coming from left field here... Songs from this era were full of drug (or "maybe" drug) references. So "everybody wants to get high" definitely goes with the time period. However, on the odd chance that a library wants an era song but not the drug reference, I wonder if something like "everybody wants to be alive" (not exact, just a thought) would make it safer. There were a lot of Byrds tunes about freedom without being high ... (Of course you could cut two versions) ... Good stuff, as always! Casey
I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!

Re: Everybody Wants To Get High
That's a good point Casey. the one listing I was looking at said that drug/sex references were ok & when I started thinking I should shoot for a "Byrds" sound I thought of 8 miles high which is what led me down that path. I may have shot myself in the foot. Yeah, I have an electric 12 sting (from the sixties!) but it's been in for repairs. I have a friend with a 12 string ric that has said he would come over and add the part . . . when he gets back in town! So maybe it'll get a 12 string on there and maybe not. Think I'll go over to the gear section and see if anyone knows of a plugin that creates a 12 string from a six. thanks!

Bill, great tune.If they don't pick it, they're nuts.I enjoyed the melody and progression so much that I wanted it to modulate up off a turnaround and really take off in the final chorus...yeah, it was getting me musically high!
