Re: Hi guys, I'm tired.............
So as long as we don't physically harm each other we can say and do what we like? You're over-simplifying. It's not so much what is said, it's the spirit in which it's said. As for the argument of "what if kids see it", well they're going to come across it sooner or later, every one of them.As for men's nipples, they we, of couse, a hunting aid. If they were soft, it was a good day to go out with your mates and chase a wooly mammoth. If they were hard, stay in the cave and watch the wall paintings.
It's a fine line between a thick soup and stew.

Hi all,I didn't really want to get involved here, it seems a little out of my depth. All I wish to say is that this type of reaction actually puts me off posting my questions and queries and TAXI is one of my main resources! I kind of depend on you guys and up to now I have received some wonderful advise and uplifting comments. I guess the ones who disagree, don't have time or who have taken a disliking to me just don't bother answering, which I respect. It seems a great shame losing members over something like this. At the end of the day we're all here for the same reason, we all share a similar passion...MUSIC and I say let there be laughter and freedom of speach inbetween...to an extent I can smell this thread burning from here! That's all I have to say.

Well said, Lindsey. For some reason conflict threads seem to thrive while the more uplifting ones do not sometimes....guess it's human nature to go for controversy.

I am trying to understand your perspective on things. Are you saying it's alright to behave in any manner that pleases you without regard to anyone else's feelimgs?

Lindsey, your behavior on this board has been perfect and is an example as to how things should be done.Don't take any notice of these little disagreements. If I said this has nothing to do with you I mean that with the utmost respect.

Re: Hi guys, I'm tired.............
Hey guys, I just got a head's up that this tread had some life. Thought it was pretty much dead the day after I posted. This kinda takes me back to Windowman when he voiced an opinion on a screener. Things came to life then too.Johnnydean, I have to disagree on the comedian part. I'm not all that funny. The songwriting part? There are definitely more talented than me and labor harder at the craft.....can't argue that. The offense taken to the jokes? Vicki said all that needed to be said about that. I haven't read all the responses posted here, I will definitely do that. Actually, it is replies like yours that bring people together here and it's cheaper than therapy. No judgement, good or bad on my part. No offense taken (sorry if that was your intent, it didn't work). Lindsey, don't be too put off by this- it's healthier than you may realize. Don't leave, you are a treasure.Chits, nice seeing you again. One more thing Johnny.......next time, don't sugarcoat it......tell me what you really think.

Re: Hi guys, I'm tired.............
And let's not forget that the ORIGINAL posting was from one of our compatriots who was feeling a little road-weary and merely asking if any of us thought we could help him.Has ANYONE even addressed LOPC's situation at all AFTER that fourth or fifth posting? Not really.Otherwise, I'm making a conscious choice to stay out of this one. LOPC... FWIW, the song that has placed me in the running for one of the 10 spots on stage, as a finalist for the Kerrville Folk Festival's songwriting contest this year..."Positive"...?I wrote the music/melody (with some crappy lyrics) in 1974. NINETEEN-SEVENTY-FOUR!!!! I wrote the current lyrics in 1993. It started winning awards in 2000. I recorded it, as it stands, in 2006. And now, all of a sudden, it MIGHT turn out to be one of the defining moments in my life. (Again, I promise I'll let you know when I hear from them the first week of May). The "birth" of this song...the evolution of this piece...has been 34 years in the making. 34 YEARS!!!!!!!!! (Good Lord, I suddenly feel very old... )I certainly feel just as beat up and exhausted at times. But I say...who knows? There's ALWAYS the chance there could be a gem or two left behind in the rubble of the music that even you, yourself, condemned previously. Just know that this place really IS based on mutual support and encouragement.(two-cent) Ted

Re: Hi guys, I'm tired.............
I think it is entirely possible, even imperative, to criticize in a positive way. I don't just mean giving out nothing but compliments...that certainly helps no one. But when pointing out a negative, it should be done in a positive way, by pointing out why it doesn't work and suggesting a different angle. But what happens sometimes is more like "Hey, your piece sucks, you don't have a clue, you're acting like an idiot, and I'm sick of your whining. You should thank me for giving you the straight truth, unfiltered. I'm doing you a favor." And this sort of action is simply destructive...it really doesn't help, it just shoots people down. A little diplomacy can turn things around for a fellow composer...but a pitiless attack just turns one away.
