Country returns

Ditto what Buc said.What gripes me is why they don't forward it if it's that close. It's not like you can say for sure what's a cut or what isn't. It's all very subjective depending on the listener. The screener might be returning a song that the label or producer would love. That's my big problem with Taxi. You should be given the benefit of the doubt on a song that is that close. As it is I feel like I'm just paying someone to throw up another barrier to my success. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.Cam

You know, if these screeners know what they are doing that well, then they more than likely are songwriters too, and if they are then we are competition to them, no?

Hmmm, that sort of smacks of conspiracy theory stuff and I'm not willing to get on that wagon. Let's just say unless you write another "Breathe", you're going to have a hard time getting a Taxi forward. Personally, I think if you write a song that good you won't need Taxi anyway.Cam

That is a good point. If you write a song that is that exceptional you shouldn't have any trouble getting it listened to or published. I've actually had some good luck so far on Broadjam.com as far as country forwards go. I have had two songs forwarded and right now it's looking like there's a good chance on one of those getting cut and the other used as is for a TV show. I had to agree to a little re-write on the one, but at least I was given the opportunity to work with the publisher. It seems like Taxi could point us towards some publishers, or them to us if they really think the material is that close instead of just saying....nice job, keep trying! Buc

This has been an ongoing discussion for...how long now? We all feel the same way about the country forwards (which are slim to none) and yet we all keep renewing our Taxi membership and submitting to the country listings. I guess it's the lottery syndrome - if you don't play, you can't win. We all know the odds are stacked against us but we keep on buying those $5 lottery tickets. I just had another return on the same song I submitted 3 other times, "Roses For No Reason". All the critiques I've gotten have said it was on target for the listings. I originally got all 10's and 9's on the first submission. The second time I got all 9's and 8's, this time I got a couple of 8's and all 7's. I've got to stop submitting this to Taxi, soon it won't be worth anything!Buc

A least some control over your odds?I'm not holding my breath to get a country forward, but I'm using the critiques to improve (hopefully) and then I'll try some other avenues. I mostly submit for tv/film but if I was just using Taxi for Country listings, I think I would be more concerned. Maybe a large part of income is from Country members? I would really like to see some stats. I guess one needs to write something head and shoulders above what is currently on the country charts, or have something completely new and unique and have a screener with the insight to see that.. I don't know.Wouldnt it be great if there was a route for Country music that didnt have to go through Nashville?? Competition is good...Marlin
