djdale,we must have some things in common, except the fact that you are in the pros and accomplished group. nonetheless i wrote one years back that used poker as the basis for the song. here are the lyrics. give them a go over and tell me how they vary from yours. PleaseDoc (sorry for the long post)I’m Moving All In By Stephen A. “Doc” Haley RiverCityMusic PublishingVerse 1Queens full of threesAn Ace high flushPocket JacksThese are things you can trustGot her bags at my doorShe sure rings my bellCan’t get much better Time to raise some hell!I lost my stakeAs one of those single menMy girl just said“I’m moving all in!”(chorus)Verse 2I’m sitting on the buttonIt’s my callCome here pretty mommaLets have a ballI’ll call your betAnd I’ll raiseWe’ll be happy Till our dying daysShe smiled at meCracked a grinLeaned across the bed And said I’m moving all in!(chorus)Verse 3Now we’re playing heads upWe’re nose to noseTossing in the sheetsYou know how it goesOne of us betsThe other one call’sA minute or two later We’re having a ballThere’s no entry feeThat’s how it’s always beenHey pretty mommaI’m moving all in!(chorus)

here are the lyrics. give them a go over and tell me how they vary from yours. PleaseWell Doc, your song is a 'get together' tune, and mine is a breakup. In my second verse, he draws three 6's (666 to represent devil) and the Queen represented her, and the duce (lowest card) represented him. I think everyone got the TWO-TO-ONE meaning...she left so he's all alone now.You have some interesting double entenders in your lyrics. We would need to hear the music as well to give a critique.Dale

hey folks, you MUST be reading that with many of the listings, on the imaginary and "in the box" high bar, that they are ONLY asking for HITS....what a stupid and ludicrous request...how many of us submit anything that we think is the crappiest POS on the planet??? so keep those cards and submissions coming, keep hope alive...oh, and humminbird, if you're there (i rarely venture into this land of the forum--very scary--)you are very corrrect, as i was once given my money back, for very good reasons that i won't go into, but if truly 6% of tunes are being forwarded, then--and only speaking for myself here--a total re-assesment is in order, the pop/rock/alt ballad/c/w bar is ridiculously more impossible, and it is truly increasingly more difficult for true "songwriters" to make it here. the problem as i see it, in my jaded self centered yet always hopeful eyes, is that the bar is not only high, but set up IN A BOX!!! how many jobs are truly on the line for submitting a slightly "different" albeit very good song? especially if MOST of the screeners are pros in the field??? you have more connections than myself, but i truly don't know the answer... i will continue for awhile longer, but if the fact remains that I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH to be forwarded more than 3 times in the last 4 years, i suppose taxi does not think i'm good enough. period. it is then MY choice. nobody else's to stay. therefore we all have that eventual decision to make, we move on, move over, or just keep trying. i'm going to keep trying, but EVERYONE has his/her choices we have to make re: the benefits of taxi...all the best, warren heinsongwriter

...we all have that eventual decision to make, we move on, move over, or just keep trying...Warren, agreed. ODDS ARE very slim to get a major cut as a 'new' writer of country music. Most of the publishing companies have staff writers that own NOTHING of the songs. Everything is owned by the publishing and record companies. Why would they give up even PART of their cash cow? These are the songs that get cut, even if they are sub par. We realize they are, and comment so, but some people vindicate these songs, saying, "well if it got cut, it must be a great song". tat is not what is going on here, it's politics and behind the scene favors. There is a very TINY TINY TINY window of opportunity for maybe ONE OR TWO songs from 'new' writers to get a cut per year, and even so, we'd own just a SMALL fraction of the song after negotiations. It's like shooting a BB through another BB hole in a window 100 yards away. Great odds huh?Dale

hmmmmmm .........what's interesting to me is the apparent anonymity of the screeners that you taxi members are submitting to. I see where it says they are industry big shots but what does that mean?the last time I checked, A&R people didn't have a long shelf life in the industry ... especially these days as the industry struggles to keep afloat in the world of music ... is this the pool from which come the judges? and because of the very nature of how it's run these days, do these A&R people even have the chance to develop their own skills at knowing what is what?innocent questions. I hope the old guard doesn't see it as an attack on taxi or their bread and butter upline.

Well after hearing most of ya'lls work and it sounding radio ready to my old ears; I'm gonna go take singing lessons, some proper guitar lessons (never had any) and practice for oh say 15 years. Then when I'm done, at age 72, I'll try to produce some quality demos to compete with the likes of you folks.I'm gonna change my company's name from RiverCityMusic to "Oh! I Crapped My Pants Music Co" and see if it get's any interest at that time. What we need to do and i'm up for a venture is a free to songwriters/artists website that lets songs (lyrics and a melody, one guitar, piano or a full group playing on it) be posted to be heard. No place for any lyrics, or jaw jacking. Just a place to post song links and then I'll have a guy I know do a prospect for emails to all the record lables, A&R's, artists that he can find and send them a link. Who knows, someone may find or hear something they like outside of this venue or others that have so much control over. Not that control is bad, but like many of you have said, some stuff doesn't get forwarded for reasons that are not due to the quality of the song but because of a screeners opinion or not matching up with the submission.Whaduyathink?Doc

Quote:Better yet, get your own site through a host like Hostbaby, and your own domain. Looks more professional.cus when it comes to music, looks are what matters.some of those are good sites doc, but they don't do what you're asking. and a few of them are mp3.com archive oriented (click to win - what, I don't know ...) but she's right, there are a lot of touchy feely sites out there - where you can get smoke blown up your ass and promises of stardom and riches ....and then there's the basic reality of things.man, if you're trying to break into music right now and make some money, you came at the wrong time. that ain't what's happening. if you're trying to find a niche and make your mark, you can.you heard warren - he quotes what was quoted from the website ... 6% of members get forwarded. from there - who knows ... some have it in the pocket, cus they've played the game and more power to them for it, some haven't and they are shut out. some are just too good to be ignored and some are just tossing money into a firepit. for each of us, it's about what you want and what can be done to get it.and about the playing field and about how to play it ...
