You really nailed this one.I think congrats are in order for Amos and Chuck too. Even though not forwarded for this listing, these are both good pieces that will find a home. Without critiques, it's very hard to be sure, but I'll venture a guess on the two pieces:Amos-- I really enjoyed your composition. All things considered, the only thing that struck me was that some of the tonal structure seemed a little dark for this listing--- almost like there was a shark lurking in the distance... but like I said... this has a good shot at finding a home.Chuck--- very good mood. It really set a very similar visual stage as Mazz's piece. My only real critique of the piece was that it didn't seem to have much variety. The lifts were more subtle, and the melodic flow was more static. But it's a good piece, and may very well find a home as is... though with some variety added, I think the chances would increase dramatically.That's my two cents as I avoid going back to my little box to finish up a day's worth of boring edits.... Thanks everyone for the support and congrats to Zink on the forward.Chuck and Amos, I'm with Aub, your pieces are good additions to your catalogs and will find a good home.Amos, I wish I could say that I've got a handle on dealing with rejection but I'd be lying. You're right, it sucks. The only strategy I use is to keep writing and improving. The Dispatch listings can be frustrating but are actually more like the real world, no critiques from the cold calls, demo packages, etc. As I'm sure you know, it's a numbers game and eventually the odds get more in your favor as you submit and write more.Cheers,Mazz

Thanks Mazz.I just now got around to listening to everyone's submissions.Great piece Mazz. Very Sea Turtley. Amos- i like this one. Cool ideas here and a really creative turn around a minute or so in. It seems a little harmonically busy at times for Turtles. They move slow. The ending part was really appropriate though.Chuck- A nice warm and inviting piece. Good sounds. Maybe a little too much talking drum for my tastes. It would of been nice if the TD started left and echoed right some of the time IMHO. I liked the idea of incorporating the TD into a more developed rhythm later in the piece.Nice pieces all.As for rejection... It happens. It really sucks, especially when you write something that you think is perfect. But I always look at it as a challenge to better myself...."I'll show them next time!!!!!" and hey, you both have good pieces here. Zink,Very nice work. The percussion was very ambient, even though it was fairly quick moving. I shied away from the 8th notes because of what the listing said (no quick tempo movement) but you pulled it off in a very subtle way. I don't think I could have achieved that level of subtletly, at least not enough to get forwarded! Well done!Good luck,Mazz

Aub and Zink, thanks for your comments.The thing I like about Dispatch listings ( if you don't already have a piece "tee'd up") is that you have to work fast and make decisions quickly. The thing I don't like about Dispatch listings is that you have to work fast and make decisions quickly. I don't have an emotion tied up in returns anymore. I'm about 1 for 2 on average.I've done enough submissions to have a somewhat predictable outcome. Obviously there is no control of a particular piece being forwarded or not. (I mentioned in an earlier post that I mistakenly submitted the same piece twice, one forwarded, one returned. I'm assuming different screeners. This is how non-subjective this can be.)I'm going forth with the approach of one out of two on average over a period of time. Hopefully, in the next year or two I'll have a better feel for the ratio of forwards to deals.If this is a "numbers game", the numbers will become very predictable. The biggest variable is not quitting before there is meaningful data to analyze IMHO.Also, as pointed out elsewhere in a post about Matto, the forward ratio should improve over time.I do have a little concern about the folks that have 6 for 6 out of the gate because this potentially can set up a false expectation of the numbers. I'm of the opinion ( barring a mega talent showing up here) that starting out if the forward ratio is too good, you're not submitting enough.I'll shut up now.Chuck
