I thought I would post a few reviews from GarageBand on one of the songs we included in our first TAXI submission for our ONOFFON SSP of the Day - GarageBand.comONOFFON - "Please Baby Please" DJMileHigh - Golden, Colorado"Hot Group Puts Out Chillin' Track. This track is like a good Manahattan--a little sweet but packing a kick behind it. The lyrics made me smile, the melody and beat chilled me out, and the slapping/clapping/snapping in the background definitely got me tapping/clapping/snapping. This sounds really polished. Sorry to heap nothing but praise, but I love this song."DJIcon - Milwaukee, Wisconsin"Imagine if Clapton did more jazzy stuff. Reminds me of a more jazzy Clapton song. To tell you the truth, I cant find anything negative, except, maybe a little more on the vocal accents towards the end of the verses. All around, a good song."Ryerson - Kitchener, Ontario, Canada"Classy Clapton Look A Like! Eric Clapton would be proud! Cool Riff's, cool vocal sound, neat yet simple beat. It Works!"sf_funkster - San Francisco, California"Sweet guys - finally a song that I would actually recommend to someone. Great guitar/bass/percussion. I dig the vocals, the lyrics are fairly entertaining. Well recorded, too. My favorite song so far on garageband.com!"Madtown- Madison, Wisconsin"Steely Dan? Is that you? I like it."Woah - Eric Clapton and Steely Dan!!!! Yeah baby! Thanks to these GB reviewers for their take on Please Baby Please - all I can hope is that TAXI's people like it as much...

How about some reviews we've received right here on the TAXI BBs for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day? TAXI Bulletin Board ReviewsONOFFON - Various tracks"i guess the only question that i have is... what are you guys doing with taxi? i don't see too many listings for your style. you sound good though."cjs production"I really like your stuff. You have actually managed to pull off the impossible, you've created a fresh new sound! Be proud. I think it's only a matter of time before you guys hit the big time. Joke: "How do you know when you've hit the big time?" When you find yourself wishing you were back home! I can imagine though that you have a problem similar to me, there just aren't a lot of listings out there seeking fresh new music and sounds. Kudos! Aaarrgghhh! Sweet ironies of life!"Nick Kepics"Hey! Wow I got to tell you Im really diggin this music! I am not a musician and i cant play any instruments. I only promote bands online. I personally feel the best music critics are just your everyday listeners. Music professionals, critics and musicians themselves seem to hear every little minorly flawed note and deduct for it. At least from my own personal experiences that what i gather. See you at the top."AustinTexasBand"Hello from Norway - I listen to your songs and I just have to salute You guys this sounds fresh. The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from a music producer -Timares ReviewONOFFON - Various tracks"Here's my review of the studio city jazz act OnOffOn. OnOffOn starts their song Your Mind in a bizarre John Zorn-esque experimental world and proceeds to delve into a world of truly trippy jazz. The song has full flowing powerful vocals that eventually break into a swinging verse. It is obvious that OnOffOn is strategically trying to create their own breed of performance art jazz with just enough hook to keep the listener tapping their toes. Dissonant chords and brave experimentation makes Your Mind at least worth listening to just for the ride. Though OnOffOn have refined their sound to a place where I believe they are comfortable at times they sound like music that only other musicians would be able to understand. Their musical ability certainly can't be challenged. I fear however that some of their choices of direction might be questionable. The instrumental track, Weekend in Montreal, is, however, a far better display of how true musicianship can be entertaining to even the average listener. Though that song has song strange key changes and time signature switches, it is far more accessible to the average listener interested in Jazz. Weekend in Montreal is clearly not a stretch for musicians of this caliber. Maybe they should be stretching just a bit more. My ears are more pleased by Weekend in Montreal, but my brain is far more interested in the bizarreness of Your Mind. The production is very crisp and clear even during the more outrageous sections of Your Mind. Jazz seems like it is best served to have good even mixes as opposed to pop oriented vocal or lead instrument up type mixes. Overall it is obvious these guys will never be out of work with chops like these. They are a musical powerhouse that is obviously ready to display their skills at any time. I would gather that their live performance is something to behold. I think, however, that OnOffOn will really be On to something when they can combine the more experimental free form type style with the conventional jazz standards style so that both my ears and brain can be happy at the same time. I would give the band a 9 out of 10 rating for being talented and being one of the true great modern jazz acts."Thanks to Timares for a simply mah-velous critique...

We just received another front page feature - this time from a British distributional site called Solarise Records. We're featured on their front page as well as featuring an interview over the next two weeks - Thanks Solarise!http://www.solariserecords.com/ Another reviewer from the annals of Mp3.com provides us with today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day -Reviews From Hell -ONOFFON - Various tracks"Onoffon - FITTS: This sounds SO GOOD, we suspect you've got ulterior motives. Obviously you've been at this for a while. Incredible mix, awesome compression on the tracks themselves, we hear the tubes mates. Big faders doing this mix. P&G in da hisouse. Wow, this is almost off the hook good. F*cking bad ass sh*t right here mates. We cuss because we care (& we can) this ROCKS. Though it isn't electronic, the sound quality kept us listening twice. The harp & the second guitar are a tad hot. OCEANS CRY: Same impecible production. Damn do you ever sleep?? We want a 303 under this one mates. If you don't know what that is, go buy one right now from ebay - ah ah ah aha ha...Here's our take on these tracks: You've either got a big room, work in a big room, or HAD a big room and now have a P4 tracking this with some tubes, it sounds so smooth! Ok so it's not electronic but these mixes are just too good. The rest of you tossers wanna hear what a MIX sounds like? Tell Gato we said hi. Much respect. RFH"Thanks to Reviews from Hell for such an interesting view of our music...

ONOFFON's SSP of the Day comes from an online record label - Referenda Records - when we competed for a spot on their roster - we mutually opted not to 'sign' with them but we still collected a rather fine group of reviews as a result -Referenda RecordsONOFFON - Various tracksNetjams - ONOFFON"Von and his group dish out sounds that sooth the soul no matter how deep it is. I find myself upgrading my sound equipment because of the desire to listen closer. My hats off to all of them."Jon AndersenLynda Johnson - Onoffon is fabulous!"You won't find a more talented group than Onoffon. Their musicianship is amazing! The more I listen, the more creativity and wonderful surprises I find in the music."Softsong - Cool Music ( ONOFFON )"ONOFFON is the tightest Jazz I ever heard , they are very professional. I DIG EM : ) enuff said - Cheers"Kathy ReynoldsJazzyHorn - ONOFFON "Onoffon is one of the best and consistent bands I have encountered since I got involved in the internet indie music scene a year ago. Tight and creatively arranged compositions, combined with skilled performances, make Onoffon a band which deserves mainstream recognition and success. I like 'em!" C MJohnnyGnote - OnOffOn"Excellent Band!! I am a professional musician of over 30 years and I think OnOffOn is a very talented and creative band. Tight sounds and a masterful use of rhythm and melody. They are tops in my book!!"JohnnyGnoteBill Lawrence - ONOFFON Raaaaaawks!!!!"I've been listening to these guys online for a couple of years now - they are one of the tightest, most versatile groups around - way cool stuff!! These guys are great! Very pleasant listening, defies categories. Nice variety, grooves, airy stuff, interesting instrument combinations and rhythms. Would love to see one of their live shows! You won't find a more enjoyable mix of music - just great stuff! These guys are *most definitely* way more ON than OFF !!!! ))"Ianbal - ONOFFON!!!!"Goodness! When I saw the Jazz tag, I thought, hmm, OK, I'll give it a listen!! What a surprise! This is one tasty little outfit! Hmm! Regards" Ian IF 6 WAS 9Bernie - This ain't your parents jazz!"Onoffon has a unique style and sound that goes beyond classification. Top shelf musicians and flawless production. Very much worth a listen!!"Delboy - Just something I've noticed"Firstly, as someone who has seen Referenda develop from almost the beginning I have to say this is probably the toughest list of artists there's been so far. I believe ONOFFON would work well on the roster. They are certainly professional enough musically. Its not my usual musical preference but their ability can keep me listening and believe me that's tough to do. Good job guys. I hope you get the vote. Which brings me to the thing I have noticed.... The bands with the most views/comments/posts/ etc... seem to be the ones who get the vote! Therefore I am confident here to say that even with other top quality bands in the list like Paris By Air and Marcus Williams I believe ONOFFON will be on the roster this time next month!"DelKim Novak - Re: Just something I've noticed"Wow! What a full sound!"Jimmy - No, Thank you!"If you hadn't have submitted your music to us all I would not have had a chance to hear it. I think this thread shows how much of a dedicated following you have. You are lucky to have people who care enough about you and your music to make the effort. Perhaps its because you appreciate what they do. It's nice to see a band who recognizes their supporters. Long may your music grow."JimmyWe really do appreciate everything that has been said about us in all of our reviews - an artist can only hope they inspire such feelings in listeners... thanks to all who participated...

ONOFFON's SSP of the Day - better late than never... SongwriterStreet.comONOFFON - Various tracksBruce ChambersONOFFON - Wet Legs"Great groove for a progressive rock tune. These guys know how to produce a song. The singer displays some good emotion in this song. Good rhythm guitar and syncopated percussive beat. The song is mellow enough to relax you, but the lyrics are little on the humorous side to help you relieve some heavy stress. At least it made me relaxed. If you don't like parental discretionary lyrics, then listen to this with caution, but I think everyone can relate." - BruceCytrusONOFFON - Mardi Gras"My first impression of "Mardi Gras" was, that it sounds fresh. I do not know why it is named "Mardi Gras", it does not bring in my mind schools out for summer feelings of New Orleans, perhaps it doesn't have to, nor I've been there. Anyway there is nice well performed laidback jamming. Apparently players are enjoying what they do. In overall I like the mood of the song, goes well in background and takes more intensive listening too."Thanks to SongwriterStreet for adding yet another review forum to our archives...

Here's another group of reviews from a place called MyMp3Network for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day -MyMp3NetworkONOFFON - Various tracksFunksquad, Albany, NY - Rating: 10.00"Very creative and very original, the music just keeps flowing! Keep it up guys!!"Rob~Songbear~Walters, Largo, FLA - Rating: 10.00"The first word that comes to mind is "Original" with a lot of talent. They have my admiration for embracing new sounds, and a full enhanced style."Ale from Soundfreek, Argentina, Bs. As. - Rating: 9.00"This band sounds great, and it is composed by the most talented musicians. Recommended to anyone who would like a some high quality jazz/rock."Drown Inc., N/A, - Rating: 10.00"Extremly good played music. I would prefer the instrumentals with very good solo and improvisation parts but the songs with voice are worth listening too. I didn't listen to a band in such a high standard on a free musicsite like mp3.com very often."Michael of DROWN INC.Carimba, Scotland, - Rating: 9.00"'Mardi Gras' is a track that has been hard to miss over the last few months! The success it has achieved is well merited - great musicianship, great feel, well produced. We thought long and hard about who this track reminded us of and the best we can come up with is John Handy in a good mood! Hope that is deemed a compliment. The track itself is melodic enough to be tuneful but complex enough to be interesting. Great rhythm section, topped with excellent horn playing. Good stuff and good luck!"Hamish Davidson, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, - Rating: 10.00"You guys rule! The band's sound is real tight and professional. You have lots of rhythmic, and textural variety in your music. I love it!"Thanks to all who left their thoughts about our music...

ONOFFON's SSP of the Day returns to the progressive rock magazine from Scandinavia, Art Rock -Art RockONOFFON - Your MindReviewed by Mattias Noren"Onoffon ar tillbaka med sin oberakneliga och jazziga stil. Lowtempo-laten "You Know I Can't" ar en av favoritlatarna for tillfallet. Lite skoj ar ocksa avslutande "Credits" dar man mumlar sig igenom tacklistan, men musikaliskt sa ar det inte sarskilt intressant.Onoffons uppfoljare nar inte fullt upp i klass med debuten, men fullt godkant betyg blir det anda. Onoffons musik har tagit en speciell plats i min musiksampling."Or - translation -"Onoffon is back with their unpredictable and jazzy style. This American trio did a very promising debut with an album that you could read about in a previous issue. The new record takes one more step towards jazz and they are getting further and further away from what we can define as progressive rock. The band is very competent and Your Mind has many great songs. Soft instrumental "Shadowglass" is just great with it's sad flute. "Alley Want" has wonderful groove just like "For Hell Sake's". "Ocean Cry" is a bit heavier and possibly the best song of the album. The instrumental song "Opus" is probably the closest we get progressive rock, and is the quality of the best tunes from their previous album. The low tempo song "You know I Can't" is one of my favorites at the moment. A bit fun is also the last song "Credits" where they sings (or what they do) the credit list. But it's not as good the second time you hear it.Onoffon's second album is as good as their first, and they should definitely have a fair 4 points out of 5 for "Your Mind". Onoffon's music has taken a very special place in my collection. Probably because its good and it isn't sounding like anything else I listen to."Thanks to Mattias for deeming us worthy of print in not one but two issues of his wonderful progressive rock magazine!

Here's another group of reviews from GarageBand on our song, "Surrender Now', the title track from our first CD, for today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day -GarageBand.comONOFFON - "Surrender Now"Popolzzz - Laval, Quebec, Canada"Great jazzy song! This song was of the best song i've heard so far on this site. It is very original, the choice of instruments is great: the harmonica is just too cool for me. The vocals are also great, i like the mix between the male and the female singers, it is just very good. Cool song to hear again and again! You guys rules! ;o"cg1 - Evanston, Illinois"odd metered funk. Wow, this is pretty interesting. Meters-influenced jazz/blues/funk. The harmonica was unexpected and a rather nice touch. The guitarist and drummer are really layin' this one down. Interesting lyrics and delivery."Mr88keys - Brooklyn, New York"Very very cool! Love it! Great odd time, great harmonica playing, real Phish style groove and harmonies. Keep it up!"Lukeshannen - Cornwall, Ontario, Canada"dirty beats and rumbling blues. Funky azz bass kicks it up a notch right from the start. And then the rhythm section slowly spirals down into an unholy funkafonic session of dirty beats and rumbling blues. Very well done. Quite enjoyable..."TheExpCmt - Santa Monica, California"Funky Jazz...u bet your azz! I freaked when the harmonica started whaling over that groovy bass line. This is one of the best songs I've heard on GB...great job!"RhythmGJ - Amherst, New York"Is it Yes? James Blood Ulmer? Or Hip-Hop? ...Don't confront me none; it's all good... Moog-ish/Lo-Fo bassline is pretty neat-o. The Clave/Bo-Diddley counter-groove is cool too. Wow. Who-da-thunk a one chord (well almost) jam could be so interesting, but it is _very_. The blues harp and vocals are just the ticket... I wonder if this group had difficulty deciding whether to put this in the Jazz, Blues, or Rock (Progressive Rock) category? No matter, anything this well-recorded and performed, and any group with the stones to play something as busy as this in 17/8 deserves the 5 they get. Just don't expect to make the Billboard Charts."I was really happy when RhythmGJ nailed it as a 17/8 - most people think it's a 8/8+9/8, but it's really a 17/8 - very cool! Thanks to all our reviewers...
