Final day - Road Rally...A fine time was had by all...A Road Rally is just like school - you get out of it what you put into it. I saw some wonderful things - I saw some terrible things. People giving of themselves, donating time and information in the most selfless ways possible and those who push and shove and do anything to get themselves noticed in the most selfish ways conceivable. The Music Library panel was wonderful - a kind word for almost every track played. Criticisms were polite and delivered respectfully. Each member was concise, well-spoken, and knowledgeable of the industry and market. It was very cool... The feeding frenzy that followed did the panel members and the hard working TAXI staffers a disservice in the way many members conducted themselves. I felt sorry for those who are there giving their time and energies to help us... there must be a better way...After speaking with a few more mentors, I left before the final ceremonies took place. I'd like to thank Michael Laskow for everything he and his amazing staff pulled off in those four days. And I still must say that participating in the Road Rally alone, is worth the price of belonging to TAXI!Until next year...

Wait a minute - something must be off somewhere...Yesterday, a little after 12 noon, I posted my last day update on the Road Rally. At that time, the 'view' count read 3,444. I know from past experience that the counter turns over at 4,000 and returns to zero. Now, the view count reads 1,030... that would mean that this thread had 1,586 views over the last 24 hours!!!!!Is that possible? That seems incredible... was there some kind of technical glitch that added hits to the view count? Subtracted from the view count? If the count is true, it deserves an honorable mention right here in the ONOFFON SSP of the Day. It's a little overwhelming to think this thread would get that many hits in one day. How cool is that!On another promotional note, there were some artists that created a slight uproar over at the American Idol Underground site. Seems enough of us wrote to the powers that be over there and they changed a couple of points in their contract. As a result, we got the opportunity to remove the randomly selected cut they chose for us and replace it with the song we chose from the beginning. I am VERY happy about that! We now have 'Mardi Gras' entered, which I believe to be a much stronger song and more appropriate for the 'Jazz' genre it's entered in. For those inclined to listen and rate the song, here's the link again -American Idol Underground - ONOFFON http://www.idolunderground.com/Pages/Pr ... D=31988And it's worth repeating - huge thanks to the whole TAXI gang for everything this last weekend!!!!

Quote:Hi Von!I just can speak for myself but I went to your posts. Thanks for sharing your Road Rally experience...It's pretty informative when you living almost at the moon. I learned a lot about the Road Rally from you, Steven LeBeau and other attendees...However....Thanks for posting,Gunter Thanks to you, Gunter! I try to tell it like it is. That first day of panels where I felt frustration, Michael Laskow was feeling even more frustrated. He turned the panel into question and answer for a while because of the genre inconsistencies. Artists really have to be more respectful of the genre boxes and the listening panels. There should be a cut-off time that one can no longer add music to the boxes, maybe that first night when we sign up for our mentors. You drop off your CDs in the appropriate boxes right then and there - then they are taken away and 'screened'. Maybe not each played, but duplicates could be removed and obvious misplacements could be weeded out.I really think the integrity of the panel, from Michael to the panelists to the artists, would be greatly benefited by these restraints. Or at least a version thereof.Still in a buzz over the whole weekend. I've got a radio show to do tomorrow morning. Last week, I played pieces from a Navy recruitment recording, made in 1958, with George Fenneman announcing (from You Bet Your Life fame). He introduces the new updated Navy between cuts played by Charlie Barnet's horn section playing with my father and his group, The Jazzpickers. What an amazing set of recordings it is. Tooooooooo hip.... Hope to have some good things to report very soon. A possible Music Supervisor job on a small, low budget movie. I'll be contributing featured songs and the entire underscore. And that's just one of many things starting in motion...

Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is direct from Derek Sivers at CD Baby. I got the chance to talk with Derek at the Road Rally and he told me this just before it launched -Now, all of ONOFFON's CDs can be found on BestBuy.com!!!!!For now, BestBuy's link utilizes CD Baby's search engine, but soon it will be incorporated into their website. So, click over and enter 'ONOFFON' into the Search CD Baby box and - voila!http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... tegoryHuge thanks to Derek and CD Baby - the only distributor an independent musician needs in this day and age...

In reflection on this day before Thanksgiving, there is much to be thankful for, indeed.First and foremost is the love and support I have from my family and friends - without that, I couldn't carry on through trying times. Secondly, if even half of what sits on our horizon comes to fruition, next year will be an extremely good year for ONOFFON.Everyone - have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and count all the blessings we are endowed with each and every day...Peace...

And....... we're back.I trust everyone had a wonderful holiday.New music websites appear seemingly every day and I love it when a new site likes what we're doing. Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is another promotional music site called TagWorld - here's what they said -"Von,You guys sound great. We would love to feature your band on tagworld.com. You've given me ample links to pull a bio, musical influences, and news from. Do you have additional mp3's other than what is downloadable on your website that you would like to stream on the site? Please email me any mp3's. Remember you music will not be downloadable on tagworld. Only streamed (unless u want it to be). I've attached an artist questionnaire in case you wanted us to add anything to your site. When all information is sent in, I will upload your site and send you the user name and password. Best Regards,Patricia"Once they have our page up, I'll post the link so you can see if it's something you might like to take part in. With every new site comes another circle of influence that our music gets exposed to.... Our thanks to Patricia for her kind words and promotional aid...

I hope you enjoy the show!!!! Please send feedback and pass the word around about The Jazz Suite.Sincerely,Norvell Molex Jr."I always like the fact that music from our first CD, produced more than eight years ago, still gets accolades and recognition from new listeners who hear it for the first time. They say that great music is timeless. I guess time will tell...Thanks to Norvell for giving us airplay in his podcast...

The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is an absolutely incredible review of our latest CD, Bridge to Presage, posted over at the International Online Music Magazine - here's the link and the introduction to the review -IOM - OnOffOn - Bridge to PresageOnOffOn CD Review - December 2005http://www.dgmpublishing.com/IOM/CDReviewsOnOffOnPresage.htm"I first introduced myself to ONOFFON in late 2004 when I began conversing with Von Babasin on anything from the talent he and his fellow band members possessed to the influences his father Harry 'The Bear' Babasin's career had made on his son. Over the past year, Von has presented himself to be a genuinely kind person as well as a passionately devoted musician that has allied himself with a tremendous team of like minded and fantastic performers that are, in amalgamation, the life-boat of ONOFFON. This is a band that has established 'permanent presence' in the hearts of those who have been fortunate enough to experience their music."Our collective gratitude goes to Elley Wilson and IOM for such an amazing review...

With the recent successes of our song, "The Gift Must Always Move", I thought I might give it a little more exposure. So, I uploaded it over at SongPlanet Internet Radio. It seems to be very well received and becomes our ONOFFON SSP of the Day - at this very moment, it sits as the #3 song on their Top 10 Songs (last seven days) and puts ONOFFON at #2 in their Top 10 Radio Artists (last seven days), posted right there on their front page -Song Planet Internet Radiohttp://songplanet.com/Thanks very much to Song Planet and all the cool DJ's spinning our songs....
