I think SIRII is a 64-bit convolution reverb and can load Altiverb's impulse responses; don't know if you'd get all of Altiverb's tweakability....

Re: New Mac Suggestions?
I have it and just put it on my Snow Leopard macbook pro. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll be trying it this week while I'm out of town.fullbirdmusic wrote:Great thread here.
FYI - anyone using Alti-Verb? I read they're not even coming out w/ a 64-bit beta version until the summer. Seems like (as of last month, according to what I read) they're not moving very fast. Anyone have any other information about this? I don't know who else uses it, but it's stalling my own upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Here's a video from NAMM about Altiverb 7 which will be 64 bit according to AudioEase: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAdUOhm0 ... r_embedded
Eventually everything will be 64 bit. It's just taking longer than I expected it would!

Re: New Mac Suggestions?
As I wait for the arrival of the new Mac Pros and possibly lower refurb prices, I'm wondering what to do with the G5 that I currently use. It houses DP, my Kontakt libraries, etc., but I plan to transfer those items to the new computer. Is there a reason and a way to incorporate the G5 into my new system, or should I simply let it gather dust?

Sweet. Actually, I think that might be what I read. I don't want to have to upgrade to 7 just to have 64-bit. But that probably will happen.mazz wrote:I have it and just put it on my Snow Leopard macbook pro. I'll let you know how it goes. Well you could buy a slightly less specced mac and then buy logic.remmet wrote:As I wait for the arrival of the new Mac Pros and possibly lower refurb prices, I'm wondering what to do with the G5 that I currently use. You could then use the node technology to hook your old computer up via ethernet.
ie same money , more power plus logic and more flexible.
Might be worth checking out the exact details?
I am guessing that some upgrade options on a mac dont equate to great gains relative to the cash spent.
I reckon your old mac used maybe to farm out the altiverbs of this world would take a nice load off your new system.

Re: New Mac Suggestions?
I have to add I have a friends mac for a few weeks and logic 9 is fantastic.
V impressed.
At some point I will have to get a mac just for logic.

2 machines should be better than one, at least thats the theory. One plays while the other records what the first played or generated ( VST ). I think Mazz does a lot of this. The key is that you need to be able to sync the 2 machines together via midi. I have no idea if the software you are using has that function as I am not a mac user. But it would need to be able to transmit some sort of time code. I sync a lot of machines but I only use one PC in my studio. This issue is exacly the reason I have never made the change to mac, that and having to purchase all new software, but Sonar does this sync thing very, very well. I would just hate to spend the money and then find out the thing wouldn't fit into my system.

Re: New Mac Suggestions?
Some of the new vsl stuff (ensemble..) allows you to expand with an ethernet cable as well.
I also think that works even between a mac and a pc.
ie no extra hardware or software.
I have gs3 with some vienna stuff and I am very tempted to upgrade but it seems a lot for me as a lot of the samples I already have.
Good times for emusicians.
In a year or less when i7 cpus come down in price there will be awesome power available.
It will really level the field and I feel original pieces are going to be where the $ is at.
ie people will shift from paying for your tech to your original ideas/themes.

If you clicked the link I posted above, you already know there's not much of a performance hit when using 32 bit Altiverb with 64-bit everything else. Apparently the bridging software is pretty transparent.
Also, in Logic, you can distribute the processing load among a number of machines, so no need to junk the G5. If you're DP or ProTools, you'll want MIDIoverLAN.
