Really?? Can't you set two locators/markers, one at the beginning and one at the end and jump back and forth between them using a key command and then read the exact position in the time display?

Nope! Unless they were pulling my leg at the Cakewalk Forum there is no other way.

I do use markers to snip, but in between markers I go crosseyed watching that ruler! Image

Now that's a bummer! For me (maybe because it's what I'm used to) I find it's much easier for me to "cut to exact time" in my video editing software so I've just been dumping my files into there for the bumber/stinger ntype nof stuff. 8 to 10 hrs a day cutting video has made me think in "frames" and it seems really easy and fast that way. If you have video software that can use the AIFF or WAV files you might want to check it out.

Not sure how others are doing it but what I like to do in Sonar (8.5), I bounce the entire mix to a new track which I call the mixdown track. Then I can easily trim the start and finish of the mix exactly as needed. It seems pretty easy, but it's been a long time since I used any other DAW than Sonar, so maybe other DAWS have a better way.

Then I export just the mixdown track to whatever file format is required as the end result. A couple of times I used the "Fit To Time" feature just on the mixdown track to get it to an exact 60 seconds or whatever, and so far that seems to work surprisingly well. I can usually create alt versions from the mixdown track without tweaking the original tracks ... but not always.

PS. Thanks to all for the tips in this post, great stuff! Jim
