Re: Ambient with Momentum ..... huh??
Hmm, I thought the conventional wisdom was to focus on the a la's hit material. This makes intuitive sense to me as it's more likely the listing party, the writer and the public at large has heard that, as opposed to a current recording that may have tanked. If the a la was U2, my submission would sound like The Joshua Tree, unless a specific song or album was mentioned.

Mojo,
If the listing had said "Ambient with Momentum" I'm sure all of us who wrote or adapted works for submission would have done our best to meet that hurdle.

Hey Stuart/Jonathan!
Alright...you got me. That was a sampled bass from Trilian (Marcus Miller's "Ragga" patch). I thought it was just right for what I was trying to do. I didn't think it was that detectable at the time. I guess my ears are goin' bad.
Hey Ott!
Thanks for the listen! 'Preciate it! I gave it my best shot. I think with me, they all seem to have the exact same taste. I get the same results [R] no matter which one it is, no matter what I try and do. Oh well...(as the kids say around these here parts) I ain't tweakin'!
Moj!
I'll keep that in mind for next time around. "Hit material" not "Current material". Got it! I suppose that would explain why mine was "stylistically off target". I'll definitely readjust my thinking/strategy, and see if that makes any difference.

Re: Ambient with Momentum ..... huh??
Yes, I listened to that. Honestly, I think we've got 2 listings mixed up here in this thread. This thread is about this listing:
AMBIENT/ATMOSPHERIC SONGS and INSTRUMENTALS in the wide range of The xx, Thievery Corporation, Zero 7, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, etc., needed by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV series. Ideal style would be fresh/contemporary, and should work well as underscores to scenes. Male or female vocals are OK and all tempos are fine. Excellent performances are absolutely essential. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. We recently ran this as Dispatch listing #D100310TV, so if you submitted to that listing, please send in new material this time around. Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics (when applicable.) All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, April 12, 2010. TAXI #Y100412EL
Moj, the link you posted with the forward, refers to this listing:
ELECTRONICA/AMBIENT/CHILLOUT SONGS/INSTRUMENTALS a la the variety of Air, Thievery Corporation, etc., are urgently needed by a major Media Company based in the UK whose clients include major Ad, Film and TV companies including Amazon, Nokia, ABC, Virgin Megastores, MGM, Showtime, etc. Tracks should be current-sounding with a fresh and unique style. Vocal and instrumental presentation must be top-notch! If your music is selected, music will be used for film/TV/commercial/documentary projects. Non-exclusive deal, you retain 100% of all rights. You must own full rights to songs, including master rights and performance/mechanical rights. Broadcast quality is needed (excellent sounding home recordings are fine.) Please submit one to three songs or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics (if applicable) . All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Thursday, May 6, 2010. TAXI #Y100506EL
I submitted to that one too. Here's my return. The two don't really sound so much different to me. They've got the same feel/vibe, IMHO. Screener returned mine because:
Reasons not Forwarded: Music
"There instrumentation choices could be more modern and innovative."
That's it. Again, I say, whatever.
