Maybe your fly was open ... Great tune .. sounds dang "Broadcast Quality" to me. Ok here's some guesses.
Song is too long
Song is too short
Song doesn't feel like you mean it
Song could be interpreted as offensive to our Chinese speaking friends
Singer didnt have a thick enough accent
Critiquer couldn't understand a word the singer said
Can't wait to see what the reason was..

Wild guess: It's four and a half minutes long? Hey what are chainsaws for, anyway?

No, I know.. it has a proper name in it?

I agree that it is on the long side, but it's film/TV, when does an entire song ever get played... maybe the credits but they need long songs for the creds.

Was it the flute?

I just got an incredible laugh out of everyone's responses!
Especially these:
"too authentic!" and "could be offensive to our chinese speaking friends!"
hahaha!
where'd you guys come up with this?
This is so vindicating.. thanks to all of you.
Arabic vocal? I guess authentic flamenco sounds a bit arabic, since it's an influence - the song is all Spanish though - albeit sung in an Andalusian accent, which might be a bit difficult to understand. fretless bass and flute are pretty typical in modern flamenco productions.

I'm so glad none of you were close, so I'm going to give you a hint:

It has to do with the mix.

OK - any new guesses?

I promise an answer by tomorrow sometime... but I'm enjoying this too much to give it away just yet.

Hey Seth - I'd been meaning to check out your tracks and just did - awesome stuff! - who's the sarode player? I studied sarode for a couple of years at Ali Akbar School, and I really the fusion you're doing. Nice!
Also - it's pretty baffling that this screener (#325 for you too?) called you out on recording quality on such well-recorded (IMHO) tracks - ESPECIALLY since your tracks mix locales (very beautifully), which goes directly against the listing's criteria.
That fact, and the very strange mix issue they called me out on - AND the fact that -
ok confession time here -
I track TAXI's screener's using a database I developed, and get a sense of each one's sense of taste, and the types of listings to which they're assigned, so that I can anticipate who'll listen to my submissions, and try to deliver what they've already liked or something similar, but that's another story....
the point it, I've been tracking screeners for about 5 years - and I've submitted tracks to probably 100 world listings, and typically see the same handful of screeners, and I've never seen #325 before - so - I presume this screener is either new to TAXI or to the genre -
so - all these things combined are adding up to me getting ready to ask for a re-listen.

Dano- thanks for those kind words in regards to my tunes. Yes, screener 325. The tracks are from my group called Anjuman. As you pointed out, we combine North Indian classical with Afro-Cuban rhythms. Our Sarod player's name is Brandon Mcintosh. He too is from Seattle. We both went to school together, and after him leaving to study in India, and me studying in Cuba, we reunited to form a hybrid of both while attempting to maintain some authenticity.

Ali Akbar School! Jealous. :D

So you got an audio comment too? Is it that the overall volume is too low? (quoting one of my comments from the same screener). I'd love to hear the final word. I do have to say though, that so far with my experiences, the screeners have had some dead on suggestions for me.

Man would I love to take a peek at your screener database :D
