Can anyone recommend a good and affordable tube mic?
Hello.
I need to buy a new mic which will be primarily used for recording male vocals and acoustic guitar. I have a Rode NT 1A but it has broken down twice in the last few months so want to get a new one. I borrowed an SE Electronics Z5600Aii recently which is an amazing mic but way too expensive for me right now. Anyone got any recommendations for a good vocal/acoustic mic, tube or other?
Thanks!
Mark

I use a Rode NTK that is quite nice for the price, I've been pleased with it. I think you can get them for $400-$500 range. By the way, I'm using it primarily with a UA 710 mic pre.

Thanks! I've been thinking about that one. Still more than I can afford really but I guess I might just have to bite the bullet and go for a pricier one if the difference is worth it.

Maybe have a look at Apex; I've been hearing good things about 'em.

First rent a AKG C12 from your local mic rental place. If it blows you away like it does most people then save your money and get a Peluso P12. It is identical to the C12. It is great for male vocal and guitar.Mark Crozer wrote:Hello.

Well Mark, I guess I'll add my 2 cents, lol. Affordable and tube don't belong in the same sentence unless you consider $1500-$2000 affordable. I see the Peluso and apex mentioned. I have a Telefunken tube mic and a cascade ribbon at the moment. The tube mic is a little noisy, I might be needing another tube. If you want smooth and warm with no high end harshness tube and/or ribbon are great choices, but so are many solid state Neumann. For sheer affordability and harshness free, you can't beat a ribbon, chinese ribbon I mean, but if you love hf harshness you can't beat a chinese condenser. If I had about $12,000 I'd buy a Telefunken Elam 251 and be done with it,lol!

I've seen these mics at the NAMM.mazz wrote:Check this one out:

I personally would not recommend them. I have heard not good things as well. But I have not owned one.
I believe they are more China mics, but I am not sure. Open to hearing anything about them.

Dwayne, what made you purchase the Peluso P12 over the Peluso 22 47.......????Dwayne Russell wrote:First rent a AKG C12 from your local mic rental place. Because I wanted a C12. I'll get 22 47 soon some day. I just bought a pair of cemc 6 yesterday.
