Worst Songs of the 90's

Post by ottlukk » Tue Sep 06, 2011 8:10 pm

The worst song of the 90's was "Barbie Girl", by Aqua, at least according to Rolling Stone. Here's the link http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/rs_sot ... f-the-90s/
Why does this song make me think of "California Girls" by Katy Perry?
Ott
p.s. "Achey Breaky Heart is also on the list. I've always thought it was so bad it was great. Anyone else think so?

Don't play that song, that achy-breaky song

I just don't think you understand

That if you play that song, that achy-breaky song,

We'll all throw up and kill the band.

No, there's nothing good about it, and I'm ashamed it was written by a Hoosier.

I remember when that song came out. I was working in a computer room doing inventory control
with 3 women, and all they listened to was country. When the girls first heard the song, they
all thought it was silly, til one of them saw the video a little later and told the others that he
was SO HOT! From then on it was "crank" the radio when it came on.
I got harder and harder to find a reason to have to go check on an item everytime that damn song came on ;)
Worse, how can it be worse...Jehova Jehova Jehova

I'll admit that I first heard "Achey Breaky" in a local dive bar that had a stage with brass poles. Perhaps my visual senses overlwhelmed my aural senses to make me think it was good. Just sayin' . . .

So Sexy! Check the mullet baby. And those dance moves!!

As far as the song is concerned. Hated it then. Hate it now.

Yikes.

cisko you dig up some real gems!

i always liked "what's up." from a lyrical standpoint it might be pretty bad but the chorus does explode and it has a decent and singable melody. come to think of it, just about every song on the list has a pretty strong hook, even if it's a terrible hook. seems to me that it's more the 10 stupidest songs of the 90s than the 10 worst.

I'm with Juliet...I remember the hook of every single one of these songs without even thinking....and considering this is POP music and not some kind of high brow tuxedo and bow tie art form, these songs do pass one of the most important criteria for pop music in that they are extremely catchy.

I would submit that the truly worst songs of the 90s have all been long forgotten...
I could see silliest though, definitely...

Yes indeed. I would love to be on this list as a songwriter or artist. Billy Ray took his Achy-Breaky Heart all the way to the bank. And it is undeniable. Tell me you didn't have the song in your head for most of the day yesterday. I sure did. That and Barbie Girl.

Sing it with me...

Dont break my heart

My achy breaky heart

I just don't think it'd understand...
