Quote:Hey lucas I don't mind people ripping into me, just didn't seem like you read anything I wroteI've given positive criticism here already and they still took exceptionCan't make everybody happy I guessTheir response was much like yours: I have read some of your other posts and it's true: you have given positive input an you are to be commended for that;but it's like with my kids, one of which is exactly your age. They do good things AND bad. I love them for having the capacity to do both, but I will forsake my job as a parent, and a human being, if I don't try and guide them away from the negative things. As a parent I have many faults, one of which is not to give credit when good was done. In our society we tend to react to alarms, but we set our alarms only to be triggered by negative things. So maybe, as a parent I should have understood that I could have said something about the positive side of you too.. I am sorry I didn't, but you must understand that there are so many people posting on this forum that it is impossible to write something to everybody, especially when we still have careers outside of cyberspace to contend with. So here goes. I think it is commendable that you have the aspiration to be honest. It is also good that you have come out of this discussion having shifted your focus on being honest in a kind sort of way. It will be difficult but I really hope you succeed.Have a great day.Lucas PS. I wish I knew what your name was.

Re: Forum Newbies... a few thoughts + FAQ
Hi...I've been putting my two cents in all over the place, but never introduced myself on this thread. Sorry about that! I'm 30...never watched Fantasy Island, have 4 kids under the age of 6, and have an awesome husband that I've been married to for 8 years. (if by chance you're stalking me throughout the threads, you'd probably already know all that)My hubby is actually a singer/songwriter (country), but he's not doing anything with it right now...instead, he's in the remodeling business. Yeah, weird, but true. We met studying music at school, and he was more the performer/writer, while I was the closet songwriter...who wasn't very good. Musically, I'm still not that good, but my writing has improved a ton. I finally woke up and realized, after an 8 year hiatus, what all my professors were talking about when they harped on the commerciality (or lack thereof) of my songs. I had my fourth baby a year ago, and I felt like that with the birth of that baby, there would be a rebirth of the creative person I used to be. I kind of buried her (the creative person, not my baby...lol) and dove right in to wife-&-motherhood. But I'm back! I've been studying songwriting like crazy...reading all the books, analyzing lyrics, and trying to get better at the craft. The good thing is that if I write country songs that need to be sung by a male, I've got a free demo singer...my husband. He sounds like Randy Travis...he's awesome! Anyhoo, I'm rambling, but it's great to meet everyone and I'm really thankful for this Forum b/c it lets me get honest feedback from people without having to pay a buttload for it. Like Ontario, I also like reading the lyrics, both good and bad, b/c they teach me what to look for in a good or bad song...and how to better critique my own songs. Thanks and see ya around on the threads, Erin

Re: Forum Newbies... a few thoughts + FAQ
Hello All,I did the same thing as Erin (momof4). I have been monitoring the boards and posting for a few weeks without properly introducing myself. I didn't realize that people were introducing themselves in here. I just thought it was an FAQ area or something and I would use it as needed. I noticed that it had new posts and went to see why. DUHMy user name is CHE which stands for Carriage House Entertainment which is what we call our studio and group of friends and family that we make music with. Some might have thought the name was a political or new age type name..... sorry to disappoint. My husband and I are self-employed. We run an internet based apparel company, and no it's not as glorified as it might sound. We operate this business out of the carriage house behind our old 1906 house. Our studio is also in the carriage house, hence the name. This carriage house actually has a basement and we are looking to have a reason to expand the studio down there. Just gotta make some money with it to justify the cost. There are too many of us to introduce, but you might hear me refer to others in my posts. Mainly my husband and 17 year old. We are actually spending approx 6 weeks in LA this summer trying to make connections in the industry and to help my 17 old learn as much as possible about the business and big time studios. He's trying to narrow down what track he wants to take in college.... engineering or music production. Wish us luck. This will no doubt be an adventure, and not cheap! YIKES housing just for that amount of time is soooooooo expensive. We have been using the forum mainly as a learning tool. It helps to hear what's getting forwarded etc... It's easy to wander around in the wilderness, but checking in on this forum is helping us get or stay on the correct path with regards to the listings. I've been able to give some helpful info, but mainly seems as if I'm getting more than giving right now. I'm sure I'll see you all around..... Tricia

Re: Forum Newbies... a few thoughts + FAQ
Hello,I have just found this thread, and as you will see this is just my 3 or 4th post.I want to say hello and although I am certainly a "newbie" I have already posted a lame lyric and received a very good critique from momo4...Erin I think it is. Thank you Erin, and I intend to work on that song and re post it later....you were kind to read it and spend so much time commenting. Much appreciated.I am a bit shy and will most likely stay in the background, but I very much enjoy this lively group of artists.I know I have much to learn and I am here to do just that. Very pleased to meet you all....Lqrose

Re: Forum Newbies... a few thoughts + FAQ
My bad!Just found out this is the place to introduce myself, AFTER hanging around and sticking my .02 in for a couple of weeks. Thankfully, all of you (well, MOST of you) seem to be very forgiving and understanding. Taxi is very new to me. Joined a couple of months ago, while going through 2 major life-altering situations. Thankfully, things are beginning to smoothe out now. (Should that "e" be there?" That IS a verb, isn't it.)Music has been part of my life always, it seems. Took piano lessons starting in third grade. Played for various churches. Sang, too.Last June, I recorded for the first time... in a studio. Did a gospel CD. All cover songs except one. Incredible experience. Then, in December I wrote and recorded a single, and again in February, I did another. All 3 projects were done in the same studio where the owner wears all the hats... plays every instrument under the sun VERY WELL, engineers, etc. (Not such a fantastic mixer though, IMHO.)I had never realized that my voice was as much of a strength for me in the music field as has been recognized since I've done these CDs. Numerous critiques have mentioned my voice/pitch/enunciation, etc.The style I'm most comfortable with is country and gospel, and probably some "folk" thrown in there, too. ( Not "people," but style. )Here's my deal... lyrics just come easily for me, and many times a tune comes with 'em. But at this point, I'm not able to bring it all together at home to produce a finished product, with the limited "home-based-equipment" and knowledge I have. Man, if I could go into the studio fairly regularly, my creativity would ignite!Anyway, I'm so pleased to be part of such an enormous family of musicians here. If I thought it was possible, I'd offer to cook dinner for everyone... fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc, etc. (Don't forget, my style is "country.")Thanks for letting me hang around and learn from you!Blessings!
