it's really just a soft-sampler. go through the kits and find something you wanna work with, and go from there. if you want certain cells routed to different channels (other than master), I can walk you through that.

if you want to load a sample, i like to use the browser, I think it's over to the right, near the "master" tab I think. once you've found a sample you want to use, highlight the cell you want to put it in, you might be able to drag and drop, but I usually double click on the file in the browser and it loads into the highlighted cell. careful you don't put more than one sample into a cell, unless you want to. if you did, go to "mapping" tab, highlight the sample you don't want, and hit delete.

then you'll want to assign a midi trigger, in the furthest left tab, look for a "learn" button, press it, then press the midi note or range you want to assign it, the midi note range will appear and you're off!

not sure i got the tab names right, just going off memory, but that is the gist of getting started (loading sample, playing sample).

lemme know how it goes..

owen.
At this stage I'm looking at how you stream it all together and play it.
I watched it used on video and they were using the external battery machine and triggering like drum pads. I'm confused as to how you use it as a plug in.
Once I see it done from scratch, I'll get it.

any midi controller will do.

you open it like any other vst instrument in a DAW. have you tried that? or are you using it as a standalone?

found a good "quickstart" tutorial here:

Yeah you just play it from your regular controller (usually a keyboard) like you would any other VI. Each cell/pad is preassigned to a key, and it says on the pad which key it is if I'm not mistaken.
In the video you were watching they probably used "Machine" to control it (NI's standalone drum machine type product). But that's not necessary, it's just for show...the plug-in was still running inside a computer and receiving midi information like you would send from a keyboard.

Thanks,
I want to create an eight bar beat. Can I create the beat internally, than upload it into logic ?
I want to create a beat like you would with ultrabeat.

I'm not familiar with ultrabeat, but like Matto said, you can open battery in logic and sequence a drum loop like any other vst instrument.

Battery doesn't have a sequencer.

Anyone using Komplete 8? I'm thinking of springing for it. I have Abysyth5 and I love using it.
I'm using K8U almost every day for many styles of music. I can't imagine you'd be sorry you bought it.

Cheers.

Thanks Ochaim,

I just completed a song using battery as my drum machine. It sounds amazing ! I'm used to working a specific way and I was hoping it would work the same way.
It doesn't, but the results are better when you put the time in.
You have to program the drums in piano editor. ( logic 9 ) I would love to be able to layer the drums via keyboard / triggering into piano editor, but you have to do it manually.
Once I accepted that reality, I got to it.

I'm glad you found a way to make it work. By "manually program", you mean you paint the notes in the piano roll?

You should be able to play the kit with any midi controller. There might a setting that's preventing the midi notes from reaching battery.

You have midi input for the battery track set to receive from your midi controller?

I play the kick / snare drum pattern first ( midi ) and then I have to paint the hats etc... after, in piano roll mode.
I could create more tracks and trigger but that would use up cpu.
I'm using soul drums, very realistic.
Once it's done I'll post it.

you can use a second midi track and route the midi to the first battery instance and record hihats along with the kick/snare of the first track.

adding midi tracks takes up insignificant amounts of cpu. it's the multiple instances of VSTi's that take up cpu. in this case, you would use multiple midi tracks to trigger the same instance of battery. on top of the hihats, you can add additional midi tracks to play whatever else, tom fills, crash etc..
