Re: Still Shaking Head in Disgust and Contempt
Got it Mojo..Thanks for the clarification....I was kinda surprised by your initial response....You don't strike me as an uncaring guy.....I understand your point of view...Don't necessarily agree that the passage of time or a random act versus a planned act to take lives makes it any different but we can agree to disagree...... I'm absolutely with mojo. In my biz, we jes say shit happens. No matta your affiliation with the best people in the world or all your good deeds (aren't we doing them because we want to? Not as a safety net?), somethin gonna happen. Sometimes it's wonderful. Sometimes it's tragic. Some have mo than others. No explanation. And I can't tell the difference between justice and the need fo revenge and education anymo. (In other words, we'll do this thing to you because you did this thing to us, so you'll understand how much it hurts to do what you did). Justice, weirdly, comes often very late in the game and usually as a direct result of that individual's activities, not as something a court ruled. Case in point? O.J. Bombers don't live long lives. Job hazard.

Quote:I'm not happy about the situation, or rather I'm pretty sure I'd be unhappy if I knew what the situation actually is. Certainly the families of the Pan Am victims were wronged, yet the effect of their loss is little different (to them) than if the plane had crashed randomly-in fact it was random murder, since there was apparently no specific target on the aircraft. Of course. You almost NEVER know the situation with anyone or anything-unless you experienced it personally... So that means that no one should have opinions on political events or otherwise because we will never truly understand. Ok, so why say anything then..?It's funny because this is the cop out that people always use... "Well, what does it really matter.." "Relax, we will never know.." Arent we actually saying that as a shield to disguise whatever it is we have become latched onto and defend? This is the nature of politics, and why i almost never discuss them.Quote:In my biz, we jes say shit happens. We say and see that phrase in mine too. I dont know exactly what you do squids, but bombers are the lowest breed of coward. They take people from their lives by blindsiding them when your back is turned; instead of come out and face you with your dukes up. Im shocked that you all will use, "shit happens", as the blanket phrase to catalog this event. 270 people were murdered... And then, as far as anyone knows, this guy is released to a celebration of homeland supporters who will see this as symbolic in one form or another... O well, shit happens....? I know that bad things happen to good people, im saying that this is the kind of person that spawns said reality. I need a cigarette.

Jamie you're right - we all have a duty to speak up and stand up against perceived wrongs, but the thing that gets me most about this is where was this outrage when our countries were preparing to invade Iraq? 270 innocent deaths is outrageous, but that number kind of pales in comparison...Truth be told, we only ever seem to be outraged when it's our kin who are killed - and that's probably the single most powerful reason that this cycle will never end.

I'm with you Jamie. It's really really upsetting. People say it's all about revenge, the attacks on us. The way I understand it, when it comes to extremists, there is no negotiation. It's their way or die. How else do you deal with an attitude like that? What choice do we have but to fight it or do we just wait to be attacked and killed?My2c Buc

Smelly situation. What about all the other greatly dangerous criminals in the world dying of sickness in jail, shouldn't they then get the same treatment? On Obama, he never really says much about things like this or the Iranian elections, after all, words do get misunderstood all the time. Sometimes it's better to say little or shut up, especially in international politics, it's not like the leaders of this world are the wisest people to have ever walked the planet.
