hey Jason,

I like the song.

If I were you, I would solo the drums with each melodic instrument in turn. and really get in there with a fine tooth comb and line stuff up rhythmically - sounds like the drums are fine. The wide panned L+R rhythm guitars are frequently ahead of the drums. Its also evident at the break at 2:30pm. The looseness is beyond what is usually tolerated for this genre.

happy to listen again if you have worked on it and lined things up rhythmically.

Cool song !

I'm hearing some tuning and or intonation issues. There are some passages where either the guitars are out or the bends aren't
in pitch.
Vocally I feel you pushed it too far back in the mix.
I would love to hear the instruments sit better in the stereo spectrum. To me it sounds like they're all fighting for the front of the line,
so to speak.
I would use a transient designer or master to help with that. Also reverb and delay will help .
I like to visualize how a rock bands sets up on stage. Drums back, kick and snare centred, toms and cymbals spread, bass back and centred and guitars slightly ahead panned hard left and right.
This works for me as far as getting started with the mix.
You will also find mixing much easier once the tuning is solved.

Your on your way !
Rich.

Nice song!

I liked that you had melodic contrast between the verse and chorus.

In terms of improvement, I'd like to hear:

1. A better mix - despite what some people say, I think a below average mix can KILL even a great song. I thought that the hi-hat was distractingly loud, the drums lacked presence and punch, and the vocals were too low in the verses.

2. A wider range of notes in the verse melody and for the vocals to fill up more of the empty space

3. A change to the rhythm of the chorus. I lose the pulse there. Might be the drum pattern.

Keep up the good work, man!

Ok guys. Here is this song remixed with vocals louder. I bumped the room mic up on the drums, so hopefully that helped with the presence and punch on them. Also turned the hi hat down. Let me know if this is any better . Thanks

Sounds like this is gonna rock when you clean up those timing issues.
It's really mostly in the verses where the crunch rhythm guit gets WAY off the beat.
Is it possible that that instrument was cut and pasted off the grid?
Rock on! -Rob

Yup, have to agree the tuning and timing issues are the only real bummer.

Like what you do young man.

sincerely

Regardless of all the comments above, I believe the first 15 seconds are actually very, very, good !!!!! Outstanding.

A little tweeking in the mix and there is a fine Instrumental version in here.

I find getting all of the reverb out of the MIX and optimizing a dry, slightly compressed, wide stereo image soundstage is what really makes it work.

Just wondering, what is the major hardware/software you are using to mix and master?

Would love to hear more!
