 I invented a new word - woo hoo!

Interruptious - Adject. - behaving in a way that causes disruption, interruption and general mayhem for the people around you.

Her children's interruptious behavior drove her slowly mad.

Anyone else struggling with clutter, this is interesting:

http://lifehacker.com/how-clutter-affec ... -662647035

Highlights:

*You tend to value things the more you touch them. There is a pain response in the brain to getting rid of things it thinks it values.
*After a certain point, material objects have a tendency to crowd out the emotional needs they are meant to support.
*Clear your computer desktop daily.

I set up my gmail with folders for all topics and now (for example) all Taxi listings go straight into the folder. So i just open the folder and look at it when I want to, instead of having 100 messages stare me in the face every time I open my email.

It's actually a strange feeling to open email and see an empty or near-empty inbox....like...uhoh, what do i do now, i'm not overwhelmed with crap!

I also got all my manuals and loose papers organized into labeled notebooks.

Mentally, I feel like I can breathe again.

Great to hear of your progress! A wise old goat once told me: "Busy is a great place to hide out." Of course the key is that busy does not equal productive.

Hi Wen,

From someone who shares some of your pain....

Thanks to input from CoachDebra, I read the book: "Time Management from the Inside Out" by Julie Morgenstern. I got the audio recording from the library and while jogging, listened to it. It really helped as the author not only discusses the logistics/organizational side of time management but also emotional and psychological reasons. And I think by exploring the underlying emotional and psychological reasons, we can gradually change life-long habits.

ciao,
Shawn

It almost sounds like a book on how to become obsessed with time management. I'm confused by the emotional and psychological aspects, I always thought people went to counseling because they have an obsessive-compulsive "disorder"? :? Otoh, it is said that people with a bipolar disorder can really be creative and get things done when they are on their upswing.

Well I haven't read the book but I could see why it might appear that way, hehe. I appreciate the suggestion of the book and actually added it to my notebook ('do now; do soon; do whenever; do periodically', haha). I will do like Shawn and get it from the library and listen while doing something else. Why not?

The emotional aspects of time management probably relate to things like avoiding stuff one thinks is going to be difficult or unpleasant, insecurity about not having the 'right' information when you need it, or self-defeating underlying beliefs (like, mixing and mastering are hard), haha.

Anyway, believe it or not, everyone who has kindly commented - I'm not spinning my wheels with organization... Since organizing/de-cluttering my studio and coming up with a basic attack plan, I've gotten more done in the last 3 days than I have in a long time. Most importantly, I did the test recordings of my instrument to see what sounds best, and that's been on the 'to do' list for quite a while. I also have a voice lesson set up to work on my problem vibrato.

cheers all!

That's great Wen! The organizational aspect is essential to a productive life. Ultimately, however, it's having the discipline & the will to plow into the work every day & get-it-done . Sounds like you're on track.

You can upload your music to SOundcloud also, create sets, if you have a collection of your best, call it Wen's greatest hits or something similar. If get a suggestion I like, I immediately work it in the context of a mix, and hope it sticks. I save my messages here. As someone else had suggested (and tis is new) I save my new tracks, all stems in three different formats in a folder containing the song. I also save two different formats of .mp3. Time consuming and kind of a pain, buit a huge relief when you want to submit say, ten tracks to a library to know you don't have to take a week bouncing stems, etc. to do it. I have one of those black and white composition books (the good ones that pages don't fall out of) to keep track of submissions and contacts.

Yes it can get overwhelming. Chuck Schlacter has a good course on time management at the rally, not sure if it is happening again this year..

You gotta figure out what your goals are and then arrange these "To Do" items under each one.

Also what is going to get you to where you want to be quicker? We can't do it all... especially if you have a full time job

as far as motivation, read The War of Art, and Do The Work http://www.stevenpressfield.com/the-war-of-art/

Great books on fighting resistance...
