WOW! 7 RETURNS I am starting to think This may not be for me. most of the returns were songs on the cd that I am briinging to the road rally I received some positive feedback on the forum but the screener disagreed . I don' know if I wasted money for this trip I know i don't suck I am a schooled musician played professional for 20 some yrs this is very depressing IT SUCKS WHEN YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR MUSIC THEN YOU CRASH AND BURN BECAUSE ONE PERSON THINKS ITS OFF TARGET. I AM GETTING TIRED OF PICKING MYSELF BACK UP AND DOING IT AGAIN AND AGAIN ETC..... BUT HERE WE GO AGAIN

Ronnie,

The ability to absorb rejection may be one of the keys to success in this business.

A series of returns should not change your plans to go to the Rally, IMO.

Like many "professional meetings", the people that don't go to the Rally are the ones that really should be there. And. the people that do attend have already achieved some level of success and want to learn and network to build on that success.

The energy and fellowship at the Rally may be the boost you need to keep going.

Hang in there Ron,
The rally will give you the boost you need.
And it's just a matter of time. I nearly didn't renew after my first year.
With my wife's support/push I renewed for 2 years and bought my plane tickets.
Right after that, the very first track I wrote for a listing landed me a direct-to-supervisor deal. My first.
Here's some advice I've hear time and time again:
- Watch Taxi TV
- Use P2P on the forums
- Attend the Rally
- Write specifically for listings, read the listings multiple times, make sure you have all the things asked.

Hang in there, we all go through those dark patches. And look forward to meeting you at the Rally.

And remember too that music for a Taxi listing is about hitting the target of what they want. Extreme example but the best orchestral composition recording in the world wouldn't get very for for a hip hop listing.

Just because the music that's on your CD wasn't right for some listings doesn't mean it's not going to be well received outside the narrow constraints of listings.

i feel your frustration ron, and still get upset on every return. my first 60 submissions were all returned. as i learned more about how to write to the listings (mainly from the forums and taxi tv), i got 10 forwards out of my next 40 submissions. still no placements thru taxi, but i'm finally seeing it's a multi-stage process, and a long road...all i can say is, trust the process. it does work. having a sense of humor about it helps me.

Hang in there! Probably overkill, but I recently sent in 10, yes 10 submissions, and am waiting to see how they do. Sometimes I know a song will do well, other times it's a wild guess and then sometimes I totally disagree with the return. Such is a musician's life I am learning. The things I have learned here on Taxi help equal out the $$$ spent this year.

I know it can be frustrating. It's taken me a loooong time to target things properly and while I've started to have a little success I still swing for the wrong listings from time to time - but I'm still learning! I recently had a song returned because there was a riff I used for 5 seconds where my fingers slid on the acoustic strings and the screener didn't like it. The kicker was he said if it wasn't for that it would have been forwarded! So yeah, I was pissed off, but I went back and fixed the track. As cliched as it sounds I try to use every return to learn something.

I think of it as one of the downsides of the world of opportunities that opens up when you can do everything yourself. One of the hardest things is to produce yourself, push your ideas to the best of your abilities, ask for another take just in case even when you liked the one you just did, discuss your music realizing what it is first when you hear someone else talk about it.. ect. It's those things that are the most difficult in the DiY world, imo..

Hey Ron... I get it.
You're doing the 'write' thing, however; both the venting, and the posting.

Of course this is the part where I would usually say (in some other world of mine yet to be manifested...) I feel your pain, but... I'm actually living it.

Oh and... don't stop. Ever. Especially when someone doesn't dig on your tracks. They're only one person. What you do is valid, regardless of outside perception (though we're all looking for that, yes I know....). Just keep on keepin' on, cuz it's all cool.

And as one of my writer friends was so kind to tell me recently... "You ARE good enough." I see that applies to you as well.
