Hey guys.
So as I thought, the only effect I was running through the group was the ampsim.

UNFORTUNATELY, as I was in a hurry the other day (at least, this is the best excuse I can come up with right now)...I think what I did was accidentally leave the ampsim plugin activated IN the group channel (which I should have deleted), as well as the individual guitar channels, which of course pushed the group signal to mono...it seems to be working fine now.

I'm desperately trying to not look too embarrassed, and contribute something productive to this thread at this point  ...soooo...in case anyone is looking for a very simple way to link channels without using groups, here's a video on how to do it. Quite handy actually.

thanks guys

Go to your Group channel Inserts, turn them off one by one till you hear the stereo pan again.
I had to do this just yesterday on a group track...
Are you sure you actually got it to be stereo? I have nothing on my group track, and it still goes mono. I hate cubase for doing this and I just realized how it's screwing up my vocal mixes that I sometimes put in a group track for mixing time. I don't understand why it's like this. What's even the point of these group tracks if they just kill your panning setup?

Group channel, group track, or group channel tracks

A channel is a mono track, usually left buss or right buss. Any effect that can take a mono input and output into stereo is bound to affect panning, so it might be best not to use such an effect before the channels are assembled to a stereo track??

For example, you might have a mono track for the left channel, and a mono track for the right channel. For practical purposes, you can't input two tracks into a single, say reverb effect (mono in, stereo out).
I say for practical reasons, because yes, you could actually use the reverb as a send effect on an effects track, but you still have the problem of stereo outs on mono tracks, and if you must do so many steps to counter the problems, you defeat the purpose of using group channel tracks in the first place.

A group track is a mono track or one channel. You must have two channels or two mono tracks for stereo.
The manual actually calls them group channels, and also because you can have a mono track. Group track somehow makes us think 'stereo track', because group makes us think more than one channel. :?
So yes, if you only have a group track, it is one channel or mono, a mono group track.
