Martin,

I agree with the other posts about it sounding dated.

If you did update the sounds, I think the composition itself would work or a sports segment on a tv show or news broadcast.

Marty,

There are a lot of good ideas going on in this tune. I think things get a little cluttered sometimes but you have several good parts. I like the section with the descending bass. I think some of the clutter comes from the rhythmic repetitive synth part. Maybe pull it in and out or back a bit especially when other things start getting busier. Yeah, I agree with the fact that the synths and overall sound dates this. You might find a listing for a 70's or 80's type movie scene or something like that though. Good points others made. I think jimc is on target about the bass ideas. More simply, (because although I have a lot of tools, I approach this rather simply and largely by ear) you might try bringing up 80-100 Hz area (set width as needed), bring down 200 Hz area a bit, sweep for spots in the mid and higher range to bring out sweet spots. I think if you try a few basic EQ setting changes like that you would hear some improvement.

Thanks Bob. I'll tweak the eq settings, as mentioned, and listen. I'm trying to develop my ear for better eq choices. One of the problems I feel like I am having is everything sounds great on my reference monitors, but after I bounce, and listen on my desktop speakers the sound is dramatically different.

Pedro, I'll think about how I can make some changes. I'm not reluctant to improve a track. But I feel if I make substantial changes, I might as well just create a new song.

I had that problem also, where my mixes were lacking bottom end... so I turned down the subwoofer in my studio.

  YEP! I completely understand THAT!

About the kick. It is possible you need to try a different kick patch? Sometimes you can't bring out frequencies that aren't there. Compression and drastic EQing aren't a bad thing for a kick drum. Don't be afraid of using heavy EQ on individual tracks to emphasize them or get them out of the way of other tracks.

I think the bass track might be fine (volume wise) if you can bring out the lows in the kick.
