Country/Rock Forward!

Post by derekmcfarland » Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:21 am

The listing:Crossover COUNTRY/ROCK SONGS a la The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, etc. are being sought after by a Producer at an L.A. based production company for a new duo that is being pitched to major labels and high profile independents. While this act communicates a California country sound, it is comprised of a guy and a girl, giving it a marketing angle a la Sugarland. He is looking for a couple of more songs to finish the project. A wide range of topics are acceptable, including lyrics that "hint" at an inspirational theme, but aren't overtly Christian in content. The Producer (who has worked with such acts ranging from Trisha Yearwood to the Nitty Gritt Dirt Band) will be screening the material so this is an excellent ground floor opportunity to be heard. We will keep the bar high on this one in order to deliver the quality that will be expected at the highest industry level.I submitted "I'll Show You Where"http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueYES!!!!

Derek,That's awesome, congratulations!!! I'd love to hear it but my POS Windoze Vista has decided to quit playing mp3s again. Is the song really 4:38 long? If so, it must be really good because being over 3:45 is usually the kiss of death.Cam

Cam,Yes, it made it through... even at 4:38. However, the length has more to do with the production versus the amount of lyrics (see below). A different production can easily get it into the time frame you suggested. Thanks for your feedback. Let me know what you think after your computer decides to play it. I'll Show You WhereI’ll show you where your dreams can’t even take youAnd the joy unclaimed has nothing to compareIf you’re lost in the night, turn your eyes to the lightThere’s rest for you there, I’ll show you whereI’ll show you where money’s not the answerAnd a life lived for wealth, will lead right to despairSo invest in what’s real, not in the things time will stealTreasure so fair, I’ll show you whereI’ll show you where loved ones never leave too soonI’ll show you where children don’t get scaredIt’s a place I hold dear, with family gathered nearWith love and care, I’ll show you whereI’ll show you where the neighbor lives that loves youAnd even in the hardest times, they’ve always some to shareSo if you’ve never known, a place where no one dies aloneFollow me there, I’ll show you whereSo if you’ve never known a place where no one dies aloneFollow me there, I’ll show you where© 2007 Derek McFarland (ASCAP) All rights reserved

OK, got my mp3 player working. It's a really nice tune Derek. At first I was thinking the screener was way off-base (which is nothing knew around here imho)-- as it doesn't sound anything like the referenced groups to me-- until I re-read the listing:"He is looking for a couple of more songs to finish the project. A wide range of topics are acceptable, including lyrics that "hint" at an inspirational theme, but aren't overtly Christian in content."In that context I'd say the screener is right on and you just hit a home run! Awesome!Cam

Derek,I just got done listening to your track...nice California country vibe and a sweet touch of Nashville...Excellent! The lead vocal has a great sound. What mic are you using on ? Pre-amp? if so, pre or post?Again, a great job! Good Luck....
