Re: new tune
Thanks Les, I will look at playing around with the electric guitars some more when I go to remix this.
And Tom, yeah that's one of my favourite lines in the song.
Melody Messiah. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so if it doesn't work for you it doesn't. But dismissing stuff out of hand with a pithy remark, as if you're a judge on American Idol, really doesn't help anybody out in the forum.

Re: new tune
There's a new mix up, same link. I implemented a bunch of suggestions from here and elsewhere. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Did not read other comments -
Liking the bones on this one, John.
Your Soundcloud page lists it as Country, but it sounds more like a Bruce Springsteen kind of song; definitely has The Boss "grind" to it.
If you want to make this a Country song, my suggestion, besides the instrumentation aspects, would be to consider speeding it up a little bit.
That's not a knock - rather a compliment, that you have some flexibility with this to try several renditions.
Good writing, Amigo.

Re: new tune
Like the harmony on tbe chorus, +1.
GIVES IT WEIGHT and sounds more like a record now. Heavier back beat is working too IMO.

Re: new tune
Hey John! Great Tune!melodymessiah wrote:the singer's stressing the wrong syllable on "divide" in the very beginning, and that's how far i listened to it...
Hope you are well, I'm still pitching our two tunes...

I listened when you first posted this and had to sit on my thoughts for a bit...
Wasn't sure what took me out of the tune, then read MelodyMessiah's post...
Listened again this morning, this is what happened to my ears
I thought you sang "There's a Duvet between you and I..." (seriously) and that's where the confusion in my head tuned me out.
So I do agree with MelodyMessiah on that point, if you could get more "Eee" on the first i in "Divide" and some "Eye" on the later
I'm assuming it's a bit of a Canadian annunciation as it sits now

Re: new tune
Hi John
As a fellow Canadian, the very FIRST thing that impressed me about this song was the opening line. I definitely heard " divide " which I thought was a very strong opening. Maybe it is our pronunciation, but that's what I heard and it hooked me into the song.
Anyway good luck with this one

Re: new tune
That's interesting Cass. I know there are a lot of words a Canadian would pronounce differently than an American, just as an Australian or British person pronounces certain words differently too, but I've never seen it have that type of effect in song. I posted this tune here and on another forum and the only people who pointed it out were you & MM.
BTW Peter, I would have listed this as Americana on Soundcloud but they don't give me the choice. I figured Country and Americana were close enough.
