Is it your experience that deals are pretty much "take it or leave it" or are there usually, or sometimes, options that are open to negotiation, within "reason"? I do suspect that once a writer is established he would have more options?
Yes ...take it or leave it. There's plenty more writers trying to get material signed

Hi. Your songs are very good. Once you jump into the DAW world, you can start building your production chops, with virtual instruments, software plug-ins, onboard mastering, etc... One program that will be very beneficial to you is called Melodyne, which takes your vocal track and digitally "snaps" the pitch to right where you want it to be, with just a few clicks of the mouse. It's truly magical, and it has probably been used by every major recording artist/producer for the better part of 10-15 years now. That alone would bring your songs to that next level, and it sure is easier than doing 100+ vocal takes and still being just a tad off in spots. Hope this helps.

Jeff

Thanks Dean, that's the same unit I have. I've had it less than a year and am still figuring out how to optimize recording and production with it. Thanks for the encouragement!
Just throwing this info out there in case it might be helpful:

There are plenty of good videos about different aspects of the unit on YouTube, but I used this tutorial and it really helped me: https://www.amazon.com/Tascam-DP-24-Vid ... 008D2VA10/

I also printed off and read the PDF manual from the Tascam website and referred back to it as needed.
Dean, I just got the Tascam tutorial DVD a couple days ago. It is very helpful, so thanks again.

I don't think that you should "bend" to any kind of contemporary / mainstream music if it is not the kind of your music. You always should have fun in what you are doing. The chances do not get better if someone doesn't stick to his own style.

Hey Wally...I use the original TASCAM DP24 and I no longer MASTER on it...Don't know if you still do, but I found the MASTER was never loud enough on my unit. I use an online MASTERING which does a better job of it...Here's the link if you wanna try it...You do nothing but upload the song and it does the rest and it's FREE....

Interesting, so they don't retain any rights to the master? I checked around and couldn't see any terms of service.

Hummingbird, not sure what you are talking about...I am talking about him "Mastering" his mixdown through an online source versus on his TASCAM DP32...

I am asking if that free on-line mastering is provided by a service without any ownership in the resulting master which might be pitched to film/tv opportunities that state the person submitting needs to own the master. Looking around the site, I could not see terms of service....

but I could be out to lunch, I very often sometimes am :P
