I've had grown men crying after my feedback at work. They didn't let me do it after that.

Re: Contemporary Enough?
What I like about your song
I really love the way you produced that awful sound
What could be improved
that awful sound
oops - that's not directed at the OP!
Just screeners must be confronted with a positive spin on that opinion several times a day

I don't understand your motivation to do this. You aren't being paid by Taxi (ARE YOU?). You already have success with your own songs in libraries and you do not use Taxi. So why be so harsh with people? Is it an ego boost? I cannot think of what might motivate you with longevity here besides ego or money. If it were some good-willed thing, you would be sugarcoating a lot. I deduce though that if there is the need to bash, there is some backstory of your past that just needs to do so. There are always going to be inexperienced dreamers and people who may never rise to the talent. Why waste your time trying to crush the dreams? Why would you put yourself through aggravation of barely tolerating the error-prone. You must get something out of it.
Like I said, it is either that you are 1) a paid consultant to be on here, 2) You are a screener for Taxi and have taken on duties as a moderator in disguise or 3) You have this driving need to subjugate the forum to your desired need for swift justice of library quality. I say it is most likely that you fall in 2). Your comments don't make sense otherwise. It is the perfect foil. You get to voice frustrations that as a screener you would never be able to do. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA....It's PERFECT!!!!

Re: Contemporary Enough?
No offense to anyone, but I am really thankful for Mark's pressence and directness on these forums. Aside from Mark, there are maybe less than five people who regularly offer critique on Peer to Peer. As it was discussed in another thread, some people want to come here and get feedback on their songs but they never want to return the favor for others. Seems a bit selfish.
In the past month I joined another Sync forum and they ask that you comment on three tracks from other people for every track of yours that you post for review-- it's a fair policy, but of course it seems to be the same people week after week posting their own tracks and not bothering to give critiques to others. But among the comments there, it tends to be more of a "hugbox" than Taxi. There are people wanting feedback on their music and posting obviously flawed tracks and receiving nothing but gladhanding responses. I've had to go on there and unleash my inner Cosmic Dolphin a few times because otherwise these people are not going to hear what they're doing wrong and make improvements.
Years ago I worked on American Idol as a production assistant. I got to see how Simon Cowell was in person and he was actually one of the nicest and most pleasant people I've ever met. I could tell some crazy stories about that whole experience. At one point I was seated at a table next to a really powerful music mogul, just the two of us-- and we listened to hundreds of applicants and made the decision if they went to the next level or not. If we gave them a thumbs down (which was 95% of them) I would have to walk up with a big pair of scissors and cut off their wristband, ending their journey on the show. i couldn't tell you how many of these people auditioning had scars on their wrists from trying to "off" themselves. It was kind of sad, but you have to get thick skin if you're going to be able to receive and utilize the advice that will help you to improve.

LOL...you know you are going to get something when a post starts off with "No offense to anyone". I will agree with you that the advice has to be received and utilize before you improve. I will disagree with how it is sometimes delivered. If I could roll my eyes at every inane, silly, demeaning comment and just reply with the most wryness I can muster: "Just be kinder!" It costs no one anything to do so and it is so simple!Ted wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 6:41 amNo offense to anyone, but I am really thankful for Mark's pressence and directness on these forums. I just get straight to the point. Maybe it's a cultural thing.Robertj64 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 5:43 amIf it were some good-willed thing, you would be sugarcoating a lot. I think it is a mistake to think that if I don't "unleash my inner Cosmic Dolphin", that people aren't going to hear constructive criticism. Cass Mcentee on here has posted feedback for me that helped me get a track forwarded. He wasn't impatient or mean about it. He said what was needed to be said. "This is what needs to be fixed...." . It was perfect. Question is "Why would you do it any other way?"
I know the response all too well. People got to have "tough love". You have to have "thick skin" if you want to make it in this world and get accepted into a library. Nope. You do have to be able to take constructive criticism. This isn't boot camp, people. We're to help each other. Leave the Marine Corps attitude at the door.

Uh no you don't. You add a certain "kick em while they are down" statements. LOL on the cultural thing. You're British, lad. You guys invented "ETIQUETTE".cosmicdolphin wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 8:03 amI just get straight to the point.
