Thanks for the words of encouragement from everyone. Yeah Lindsey, you're right. I've gotta' find somethin' to nibble on ta' break the vicious psychological tendancies. I had previously nibbled on 2 rolls of Lifesavers. They're all gone! One more roll left upstairs. That'll be gone in less than an hour, once I get my hands on it (that's if the kids haven't beaten me to it). Hmmm...gotta' go check! Later folks!I-468

Just an update for all of those concerned. Just got back from running a few errands. On the way back home, decided to stop at the Super Walmart, and get some things to help ease the vicious transition. Picked up 4 bottles of Hawaiian Punch to replace the beer (.88 cents/2 liter), 2 bags of Lifesavers, to try and substitute (psychologically) for the cigarette cravings, and a coupla big bags of chips (cheddar cheese Frito-Lays & extra cheese Doritos) for those late night/early morning hunger pains. Sound like I'm prepared? Anything else? My biggest problem will be looking for a cigarette after eating something. Just got through eating a coupla' filet-o-fish sandwiches from McD's, and dammit, the first thing I was looking for afterwards was a cigarette. I had to remind myself that I was quitting, and immediately had to open the bag of LifeSavers to fight those nasty urges! I guess the only thing left ta' do is pray for strength! Yiiiikkes!I-468

Hey, Solrax & Ibanez!!!I am SO proud of you guys for giving this a go. No, it's NOT easy. But keep checking in here every day. It makes a difference. Actually, it helped me to get on this thread and scream every once (or twice) in a while.Again, I used jelly beans for the first 3-4 days. The lifesavers ought to help. But Ibanez, if you're approaching 48 hours, I know you won't FEEL like this is the case, but you are actually past the toughest part. Now it comes down to sheer force of will. And when I had no will left, I got on this thread. You guys can do this. If you need to scream, feel free to PM me and let one fly at the top of your lungs. Your clearer, healthier lungs.OH, and BTW... I am NOT making this up... At the BBQ I went to a couple of nights ago, I spent the last hour or two in the living room, trading songs on the guitar with some friends. I tune my guitar about a step-and-a-half down (mostly to take the pressure off the neck, which is collapsing). This Taylor we were passing around was in traditional tune, and I was nervous about trying to hit my top notes. I hit b-flat repeatedly and with ease...something I haven't been able to do in YEARS! That alone has made it worth it. I've got my top range back. wooHOO!!!!!!Just get through this next hour....Way To GO!!!Ted

Thanks Milfus. 'Preciate the encouragement from ya'. Guys, gonna' add one more little piece of discipline in here (this is for myself, not suggesting anyone else does it, unless they want to). I've done this before too! I usually get a pack everyday. So instead of getting a pack everyday, I'm going to put away approximately $6.54 daily. That's how much the brand I buy, costs right now. So I'll either put $6.54 away on a daily basis, or I'll wait until every Saturday (kinda' like a payday) and put away 7 days worth of money for packs of cigarettes I would have purchased during the week, and then start over again on Sunday. Works out either way for me. Someone do the math for me, if you'd please. How much will I have by the time the Road Rally rolls around in November? Will I need to increase savings or what? I'm a really lousy mathematician. I-468

I-468 it's about $1500.00 saved from now until november I'm close to hitting 12 hours of not smoking I was asleep for 6 of those hours. I think the hardest thing so far has been habit. I woke up and started feeling around the floor for my pack of cigarettes, before reality hit, and I realized I had quit.Luckily, I completley shredded all my cigarettes this morning so that I would not be tempted with that just one more to get through the day feeling.

Hey, you two.Glad to see you checking in.Ibanez, if that's not enough to get you to the Rally, then you need to downgrade to coach. And Solrax, shredding your left-over smokes was absolutely the right thing to do. And even though I'm on my 19th day (wooHOO!!), the "habit' side of it is still the toughest part to deal with. All i could do was fight my way through it. Quite literally, there were nights when all I did was sit in silence in front of my music work station and grip the b'jesus out of the arm rests, repeating to myself, "you are NOT going anywhere to buy a cigarette..." Just find a way to distract yourself for about 10 minutes each time the cravings/habitual behaviors come knocking on your brain.See y'all here tomorrow? Ted

Hey solrax, thanks for the estimate. Well, that's better than nothin'. Maybe some others can chime in and tell me what $1500.00 can get me as far as Road Rally is concerned.Solrax, sleep is definitely a good idea. I started out doin' that too. It can really get your mind off of cigarettes if you're not awake to think about 'em. Sure thing Ted. I'll be back tomorrow, for sure. You hang in there, and be strong, fight those urges. You're actually stronger than they. I know this for certain.Yeah, tory, it'll be tough no doubt, especially for a 2 packs-a-day smoker. But you can do it too. We all can do it if we're truly ready to. Won't be easy, but it CAN be done. Here's a big GOOD LUCK to everyone. You can DO IT!I-468
