Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Sorry I haven't been on in a couple of days. Well bad news and good news. Bad News I bought a pack of cigarettes last night. The good News I have only smoked one out of that pack. Quitting is harder than what I thought. I might go to the doctor on Monday for added help! But either way 1 cigarette in almost 4 days isn't too bad I don't think.Talk to you all soon!

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
I need everyones opinion on this! Before I tell you on what I need your opinion on, I need to take you through a journey during my teen years. I was 15 years old, when I started smoking. At this time I wasn't smoking a pack a day. In fact I was only smoking maybe a cigarette or two a day. During this time I also tried dipping for my first time. I didn't know the whole "spit instead of swallow" theory, so I was swallowing. As you can imagine I was extremely sick for a day. This has given me a hatred for dip. I get quezzy just smelling dip. By the time I was 19 years old I was smoking regurlary and decided with a friend of mine to quit smoking. The way we coped with it, was actually buying and sharing a can of dip. Like I said I hated dip, so I would only put a tiny bit in my mouth, and spit it out shortly after putting it in. It gave me the nicotine I needed to help me get though those hard cravings. I used dip about three times a day instead of smoking. 5 days after quitting smoking and using dip a total of about 15 times, I was also able to drop the dip, becuase I hated it so much. It made me sick, just having it in my mouth. I ended staying away from cigarettes for about 2 months that time without coming back to them. I started up again after that 2 months. So my question is do you think I should buy dip and try that route again, knowing that I get sick of dipping, but will help me get through the tough times?Or, Do you think I should just go to the doctor for added help?

Do you mean chewing tobacco? If that's what's gonna work for you, and you really want to quit, then go ahead. Except, your still consuming nicotine. Who I am to talk? I have resisted this thread like the plague... Guess why.So... advice on addictions from me, could be quite suspect. Yup I did mean chewing tobacco. LOL it's hard to quit, so any suggestions are welcome. Sometimes those who still do, give the best advice on how not to do.I'm leaving to work I'll check back in later, while at workApr 18, 2008, 6:45pm, sgs4u wrote:Do you mean chewing tobacco? If that's what's gonna work for you, and you really want to quit, then go ahead. "Do you know the consequences of chewing tobacco? It is actually more addictive than smoking." Reads.... 'All forms of oral tobacco contain known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). They can cause cancer of the mouth and pancreas and many other health problems, such as gum disease, destruction of the bone sockets around the teeth, and tooth loss. They also cause bad breath and stained teeth.... Nicotine is absorbed through the mouth tissues. The user spits out the brown juice -- saliva that soaked through the tobacco.' Hummingbird: "Wow, that sounds really attractive."So I vote that you go to the doctor and get some help. Patches. Counselling. Whatever it takes. Also look through this thread for the discussion about triggers - that really made sense to me.Keep posting here, because we're rooting for you. And I'll tell you one thing that helped me quit smoking years ago... my Dad quit after 30 years. I figured, if he could, so could I. At that point his teeth, lips and hands were stained with tobacoo since he'd been smoking since he was an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy. And guess what - he was just here visiting me for the weekend - 83, and still with it. And I'm so glad he's still in my life.

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
nah, i had tests and stuff, had to sing scales, and i found out my vocal range is about 2 notes, neither where on the test, I havent broken down and bought a pack, I keep fighting but the damn things are all over the house (not mine) so roughly 12 hours go by, i black out and have one, though atleast its lessening pretty fast, cause im only smoking like 2 a day, so i really think I will crest the hill, I am way too stubborn to allow a defeat, i dont care if it takes a year

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
I don't wanna bore all y'all but I jes finished a presentation at school on tobacco cessation. We did a ton of research on it (tough instructor) and overall, aced it. Meantime, I was interested in the solutions to craving tobacco and there were some good ones:1. On average, most people only gain 8-10 lbs after quitting. Certainly not enough to justify smoking to keep weight down.2. The benefits begin within 20 minutes and continue through the next 15 years. Since our lungs are forgiving (up to a point), we can recover and see our risks for heart attacks, strokes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer reduced to that of nonsmokers almost.3. Try these things to help with cravings; - see the doc for help with quitting, like prescription nicotrol ds (nicotine spray), nicogel (nicotine gel that's absorbed through the skin), wellbutrin or zyban. Nicotine gum is available over the counter too. - flavored toothpicks (cinnamon for non-menthol smokers, mint for menthol smokers) to help reduce eating sweets; lollipops to reduce jaw fatigue from chewing gum too much; and most importantly, when you're dying for a smoke, raise your fingers to your lips as if you're holding a cigarette and take a huge breath (like taking a drag). The extra oxygen will soothe you, along with the illusion of having a cigarette.I have more info if anyone's interested. It was an hour presentation. Also, if you have insurance, most pay for tobacco cessation programs and the American Lung Association has a program you can do online as well. You'll reduce your premiums for life insurance and health insurance if you're a nonsmoker.......even more money in your pocket!!HANG IN THERE, we're ALL pullin' foi ya, bros!Squids(sorry this was so long!)

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Hummingbird, yeah my brain is telling me that I should get help, but my addiction is telling me to find an scapegoat to get the nicotine. I think that my addiction is making me believe that one form of nicotine is better than the other. Milfus, Keep it up, you will soon be a non smoker.and squids, thanks for the information, I for one could use more advice. So if you feel like writing more on the subject please feel free to do so on post or PM.I know the reasons why I want to quit smoking. My daughter, she means everything to me, she is 6 months old, and I want to be there for her for a long time.

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Keep going gang!IMO Solrax found a very good reason to quit. Being there for graduation...wedding...becoming a grandfather (ooops...maybe thinking THAT far ahead isn't that motivating when the cravings hit!)Your fine example also gives her a role model....much better to have her say "smoking? what's that?" when she becomes a teenager.Hang in there Milfus! Looks like the daily dose is waaaaay down already...but having them all over the place is tough. Can the other folks agree to squirrel their's away for a while? And your comment on singing "2 notes" is great...that's why I write original music, no one can tell me I'm singing it wrong.

Yeah Torey,Probably a good idea to keep all reminders out of your sight. I moved my ash tray where I can't see it, along with my cigarette lighter. See if you can get others to cooperate with you & dump their cigarettes & ashes (and remove packs of) so they're not sittin' around for you ta' see. Let 'em know what you're tryin' ta' do, and that you could use their help. Need to eliminate all external triggers. You have enough internal ones.I-468
