Yeah, school can definitely be a stress-maker. But hey...you're doin' great. I'll bet your insides are starting ta' feel a little better, huh? To cut down from 40 is a major accomplishment dude! Don't forget ta' do those deep breathing exercises too, when you feel an attack coming on. Sometimes they actually help.I-468

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Thanks Liam for the support, 'preciate it. And as far as you wishing you had willpower, well...you already have it. Everybody does. It can be a bear to get it ta' work for you though. It's really all psychological. It can be overcome if you REALLY want to overcome it (smoking, that is). It's a f***in' tough road though, boy! Wheeew!I-468

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Ibanez, Carlos, Milfus... I am totally overwhelmed by y'all sticking with your attempts, and continuing to check-in with us here.Y'all CAN do this. Ibanez, I'm so proud of you for approaching your first full week. that's fantastic. Carlos, Tory...you guys have NO reason to feel bad or defeated, OR to beat yourself up for having one... IF you go online and read some of the research, you'll be reminded that nicotine is considered tougher to kick than heroine. Just keep telling yourself how happy your lungs were for the hours/days without. I can hardly believe I am able to say...23 days and counting. wooHOO!!!!!I am one of the biggest weakling/wusses any of you may ever meet; so if I can do this, I have NO doubt that you can, too.Keep it up. Keep checking in. Keep believing you can be stronger than the nicotine. And (Carlos), just keep thinking about the amazing example you're setting for your daughter. Think about how GREAT it will be to tell her when she's in junior high that you quit because you wanted to be there for her... She'll love you even more for that.So proud of y'all...Ted

So far so good, it still hurts, but not as bad as running or working-out, punching things. What I decided to experiment on, and actually started working (2 out of the 3, is all I've done), is whenever I feel a strong urge (The strong, the world is falling apart, I'm being suffocated feelings) coming on I do one of 3 things. I go for a run, usually not very far (only a mile or 2, even though it seems like a lot it's not, my job kinda requires it, and smoking has affected me only in that I run out of breath quicker and run slower, but can still complete the run) While on my run, I start thinking of all the positive things not smoking will do for me like:Staying alive for my little girl.Get a better sense of smell and taste.Get in better shape, look and smell better for my wife. Will not run out of breath during softball season.Sing betterHelp me stay alive in my job, believe it or not. PM me if you want to know what I do...I won't put it on the forum...it's nothing bad I promise....I am a 100% law abiding American....This helps cause it motivates me to keep running at a faster pace regardless of the pain, and helps me pass time during the run. After a while, The abdominal pain I get supersedes the cigarette craving. When that pain goes away, I feel a lot better. Second one that I've tried might actually sound dumb but It worked. I took the frustration out on a board. It hurt like hell, but made me feel better. The one I haven't tried, but want to try, is doing dumbbell curls. The way I figure it is I will let out my anger and frustration out that way. They seem to work for me, because as I said, on the last one. They give me more pain, then that of cravings I get, and also because I get very frustrated and upset when I get these cravings they let me take my anger out on something, that won't get hurt (unless I break my hand )So far it's working for me so as dumb as it might sound I'm going to keep at it. It's helping me a great deal!Just got off work, so I'm about to go to sleep after a little light studying. I will see you all later!

Re: THREE more attempting to QUIT SMOKING!!!!!
Yeah, Carlos... physical activity is a GREAT help. I've been going for 60-90 minute walks (at a very fast pace) lately and they're not only amazing for helping me be AWARE of how much better each breath feels, but also for clearing my head. Not so sure about beating up on a wooden board (for your hands' sake), but exercise really WILL help.Keep thinking about your daughter and it'll get easier and easier.Ted...but you can call me "24-day Ted". wooHOO!
