The dad of my best friend was Johnny Rivers' first hired guitar player for touring. He had a '57 Strat that he let us play anytime we wanted, he played a Tele and wouldn't let us touch it. that's why I bought my first Strat (and Super Reverb). '65 was a good year. His family still has that '57.

This R & B artist was born in Alabama but has lived in Baton Rouge for most of the last 3 decades. His debut single reached #1 on the R & B charts in '66 and became Atlantic Records first gold record, the same song, re-release, hit #2 in the UK charts in '86 after being used in "Platoon"

His singles had such a "live" feel (maybe they were). Who played lead guitar in his band? The guitar on "Secret Agent Man" sure sounds like a Gibson (335) or Gretch semi-hollow body, not a Fender. Great stuff!Ern

Ungonged!Just did a little research:Ern's got good ears --- JR plays a Gibson ES-335 onstage. But on "Poor Side Of Town," he played a Gibson ES-295 (never heard of one).I believe that if Johnny played his own riffs, he played his own solos because the sound is identical.BTW Drew, I owned a hot-rodded '65 Strat that had a special pre-amp built by Bill Lawrence. It was stolen a long time ago. A couple years ago I was looking on eBay and was 99% sure I found it --- sunburst, special toggle switch etc. Some guy in Dallas was selling it for $6000. I had no proof it was mine, so I was S.O.L.Ern
