BTW: On this day, January 30, in 1969 - The Beatles made their last public appearance together, on the roof of their Apple Studios in London.

I promised Sgt. Pepper I wouldn’t tell this story so don’t spread it around:One night I attended a party with Sgt., it was all music industry types - musicians, producers, performers, agents, you name it. Pepper was hitting the Jagermeister hard and got really soused, we’re talking a Pickled Pepper here. Anyway, Sgt. stood in the middle of the room, raised his nearly empty bottle, pronounced himself the “King of All Things Groovy” and passed out face down on the coffee table. No one seemed to notice and the party went on with people sitting their drinks on his back and cracking walnuts on his head. His brother Peter, being the one who negotiates contracts for the band (you remember Peter Pepper, the one who packed a poke with puckered porkers or something like that), anyway, Peter was discussing a recording contract with a label rep and as they drank, talked, drank and drank some more they started feeling like they were coming to a pretty good agreement and decided to start taking notes. With no paper handy they started scribbling their ideas on Sgt’s back. They filled up his back pretty good and had to roll him over to continue the paragraphs on his belly. When they reached what they considered to be an excellent contract they both signed off on it.An industry lawyer saw this and said “It’s not legit if it isn’t notarized”. Since he was from another state he couldn’t do it but someone pointed out that a judge lived down the street. The two of them decided to go to the judge’s house and have him put his official Okey Dokey on their contract. They each grabbed an ankle and dragged Sgt. out the door.It was storming pretty good that night so he was floated through more than a few puddles. When the judge answer his door they showed him the “contract” they were dragging behind them which was now smeared and running. The judge, looking with disgust at Sgt., declared; “This contract is not worth the Pepper it is written on” and slammed the door. They probably should have used a Marks-A-Lot
