I'd have to disagree, Gongtime...I think Paul started out more pop-driven, but moved toward thought-driven lyrics... Which seems normal to me -- especially after my next thought...Whereas John's creative drive, over many years, seemed to travel in the opposite direction... From his own heart to the label's heart which would, nowadays, spell, Sell-out"...I really do think John lost it, early in his carreer, but his hooking up with Yoko, although it changed him, personally... as a writer, that relationship was partly responsible for his continued independent success.Jeez, I hate to say it...I believe that Yoko did, indeed, change rock and roll...

I think Yoko was the best thing that could've happened the Beatles at that point. Besides being quite talented herself, she nudged Lennon in a more hard- hitting direction and was at least partly responsible for them splitting up. A good thing in my book. I for one would not have liked to see the inevitable decline they were heading for. When I wonder what would've happened had the Beatles kept going I look at the insipid ELO and give thanks for Yoko. Coz that's the ballpark they would've ended up.

C'mon, lets get with it before ONOFFON laps us again! The answer to the actors is: "I Am The Walrus." Lennon had a recording of "King Lear", using such lines as "O, untimely death," "A serviceable villian," and "Sit you down father, rest you."John was one of a kind!Ern

Did you know ----- "Please Please Me" was originally written at a much slower tempo --- very much like a Roy Orbison ballad.Imagine the tempo of "Crying", and sing "Please Please Me" in Roy's vibrato, sunglasses optional. Quite a different mood, but kinda cool! Ern

So did we ever come up with a genuine answer to Rock's question... After 31 pages?Nope...I think it was a huge album just because the youth around the world was enthralled with the Beatles' mystique. I just think it was the proverbial Beatlemania on a global scale that sold that record.
