Quote:I can see the gender thing Erns. I would simply hate it if Nomi or Pitterpatter were daydreaming about me in my speedo at my computer. LOL! Oh god, what a mental image! I was just hypothesizing that confusion over one's gender may be a contributing factor to internet hostility. Ern

Since my real name has been brought up on this thread, I may as well add a comment. When I started using the internet in the early 90's, I was paranoid about using my real name. After awhile I realized I was missing out on promoting my songwriting and networking. While I wouldn't post my social security number or anything, I really don't see the problem with being real online. If you meet me at the next Road Rally, my name will still be Nomi, those photos on my website are what I look like, and I did write, perform and produce those songs. As long as Ern's neighbor doesn't move in next door, I'm not too worried.May as wellNomi

Sometimes I wish I could say I forgot to take my medication, but the fact is I always remember it. Up the dose. Ranting is ruinous.

I post under Hummingbird for fun, but on every songwriting board and every website that I have, you also see my real name. For two reason, first, so you all know who I am, that I'm 'legitimate' in terms of my opinions and feedback; two, I wish that any respect given to me, be given to an identifiable person... so, when you meet me at the Rally, or PM me, or email me through my site, you know you are getting Hummingbird/Vikki. Like Nomi, as a singer/songwriter, I don't see the reasoning behind not saying who you are... if you are marketing music. OTOH, I totally don't think you have to say who you are if you don't want to... as long as you keep to the rules of the forum.H

Good point, Vikki. I have visited some music and tech forums that give me absolutely no desire to let them know who I am!
