Well, I must say that I've grown to like Johnny Cash quite a bit. Have you seen the video of him singing Trent Reznor's "Hurt?" Devastating and artistic. That said, one of the most bizarre recordings ever made is Johnny Cash singing "Little Drummer Boy." Wow! He must have been on heroin when he made that record.Ern

FROM THE BBCManilow to drive out 'hooligans'A council in the Australian city of Sydney is taking radical measures against car-revving youths - the calming tones of singer Barry Manilow. Officials in Rockdale say that local youths have been hanging around in car parks, revving their engines and generally annoying residents. So the council has decided to strike back. From July, Barry Manilow's greatest hits will be piped into one car park in a bid to drive the youths away. Deputy mayor Bill Saravinovski said the decision was taken because the youths were intimidating local people. "They are just hanging out and causing a nuisance to the general public," he told the AFP news agency. The music will be played for a six-month trial period at a car park in the suburb of Brighton-le-Sands. Mr Saravinovski said it should not annoy residents, but would will be loud enough for the youths to hear it. "Daggy music is one way to make the hoons leave an area, because they can't stand the music," he told Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph. Daggy is Australian slang for unfashionable or uncool. LOL! Ern

The first time I saw that video... after I just sat and stared into space contemplating the meaning of life, the universe and everything. I must say, beyond just making me feel and think, it heightened my appreciation for both Cash and Reznor. No other music video has ever impacted me like that one did. Raw, pure humanity - sheer genius.Aub

So!I was just thinking about the love/hate relationships to singers posted here: Willie, Springsteen etc., and I thought about a drummer friend who can't stand Michael Stipe of R.E.M.! I used to think like that about singers when I was a young Beatle fan --- if you didn't sing perfectly in tune, you weren't a good singer. But singing is about communicating raw emotions, too. Rock ain't like singing in a church choir. So singers I appreciate more and more as I, ahem, mature:DylanLou ReedMick JaggerTom WaitsKurt CobainJimi HendrixJohnny CashOzzy OsbourneGeddy LeeAnd I've ALWAYS loved Robert Plant and Bruce Springsteen --- True forces of nature (sorry, Rock )!My fave singer some people love to hate: Jon Anderson (Yes)That's my 2 cents,Ern

Anderson is awesome, heard anything new from him lately?I thought you meant the other country guy, from 15 years ago. I think his name is John Anderson as well. The voice on that "Yes" guy could cut through any bad coliseum mix any day!!other bad singers with awesome songs to pay attention to:Dylan & Petty
