OK now, really, who doesn't secretly like Hocus Pocus by Focus? Laugh all you want at the yodelling, but just try and transcribe the guitar solos!

That guitarist (Jan Ackerman?) has some of the best rock chops I've ever heard. The keyboardist/vocalist IS pretty bizarre, but it's so cool!Ern

A lot of those songs ARE good --- You're feeling guilt about Elvis?I grew up around Chicago, and the Buckinghams never recorded "Kind Of A Drap", as far as I know. How about "Susan," which had a faux Beatles psychedelic bridge? That one takes a great fan to love it!Ern

I love "Hocus Pocus", listen to it all the time. So has my son ever since he heard me playing it.

I remember buying his solo album Tabernacle years ago, after wearing out my Focus 8-track.

OKOne my absolute fav albums of all time is the 2 album set, Melanie - Live at Carnegie Hall. And I consider her an influence as a songwriter, but generally keep that guilty thing to myself. Melanie is an excellent songwriter but unfortunately a lot of folks associate her with "Brand New Key," a song I wish she never released. On this double album, Melanie performs at Carnegie Hall for about 90 minutes-- just her and her guitar, nothing else. How many could pull that off nowadays? She was awesome. Casey

Re: Musical Guilty Pleasures!
I had the Gather Me album (w/ Brand New Key)...got it from Columbia House Records. I think I liked all the songs except the hit...And speaking of Focus, (well it's not related, but it made me think of it) - anybody remember Andrew Lloyd Webber - Variations (based on Paganini 24th Caprice). Gary Moore, Phil Collins, Rod Argent. I remember that being a guilty pleasure in 1978. Have no idea how it would hold up today...
