Willie,I still sing it nearly every week at a little Cafe where I've been doing a Sunday Brunch gig for nearly five years...It's one of those songs that I can sing while asleep, or hung over & I still choke up about half the time before the song's over...Midnite

It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere

That tis one lovely story song. It's got it all...life, love aging...Thank you Sir fer that.I learned it from the Liam Clancy & Makem recording...it is wonderful also. In hearin Steve, I hear a trace ofearly Glen Campell style, but that was all around the same time period, yes? Also hear Jimmy Croce. Damn, he was grand also... Thanks MidnightAuld One Eye Willie

Glad you were able to hear it Willie....I'll leave it up for a coupla days in case anyone else wants to work up a sweet tear or two...I was actually living in Chicago when Steve died & was at the Tribute Concert the following February...When Michael Smith sang The Dutchman, 1,500 in the audience sang along with him....Not a dry eye in the house, both from the song, & the sadness of the evening....If you ever get hold of the Steve Goodman Tribute album, mine is the one voice out of 1,500 that you can hear singing off key...:-)Midnite
