I will, however, point to the following rather timely post on Austin's CraigsList today:+++++++++++++musicians and bands (North Austin)Date: 2008-04-15, 11:14AM CDTWe'll record 10 of your songs for $500. We've been out and about town scouting for bands and this is what they've asked for. Professional and layed back recording with as much control as you want.++++++++++++++++++These guys may not be what a songwriter is looking for, but the point is they're out there and they're certainly not the only ones looking for extra work. That's a helpful example; thanks. It doesn't seem to address OP's need for production assistance, and the quality of their work is unknown, but it does show that some research can uncover options.Apr 15, 2008, 12:46pm, texasmusicforge wrote:I'll remind you that I stated we were talking about clean/clear sound and an acceptable level of musicianship - what the Taxi listings call "broadcast quality or good home studio" sound. That may be a standard acceptable for many Taxi listings (for valid reasons based on individual examples), but it's not necessarily the best way to stand out in a sea of competition. Perhaps a great song will shine through nonetheless, but many songwriters are facing the reality that the very technology that makes it easier to get demo's made cheaply also raises the production bar expected by music screeners [not exclusive to Taxi].Apr 15, 2008, 12:46pm, texasmusicforge wrote:I merely posit that a songwriter doesn't have to spend more than $300 a tune if they're willing to invest a little work in finding a demo partner. Your mileage, of course, may vary....I completely agree, but finding a demo partner (who would need to be excited by and bought into your music) is not the same thing as hiring a demo studio to produce your demos, and doesn't appear to be what the OP was seeking or expected.BTW, is there somewhere we could listen to the tracks you've been producing with your studio(s)?Kindly,André

I thought I would give all of you who offered your kind words of support and update on this matter.I ended up taking the producer and engineer to small claims court.I won!I am thrilled with the outcome. I don't know if I'll get the money back, but it is a moral victory - at least - to know that someone else saw where I was being wronged. I guess they plan to appeal, but I am not really worried about that. According to the judge yesterday, the appeals process in that jurisdiction is that a superior court judge will listen to the court proceedings in his/her chambers in private to see if the decision should be overturned. No new evidence or testimony can be admitted.Anyway, I wanted to thank you all again for your kind words of support, and to let you know how it all turned out. Thanks again!Charity

I don't know if I'll get the money back, but it is a moral victory...I'm not a lawyer and I don't know if it's still this way, but in Missouri, at one time you could obtain a judgement (after everything was said and done) and if they wouldn't pay voluntarily, you could find where they did their banking, walk in with that judgement and the bank was obligated to withdraw the money from their account right then and there, without any advanced notification to them. They just woke up one day, you had their money (your money) and all their checks for their other obligations had bounced. Now THAT'S satisfaction. Ahhhhh....

Awesome!! Congratulations! I always feel that if you're right you need to fight for it. I had a company owe me $22k about 4 years ago (not music related) and I requested arbitration since the contract I'd signed with them had an arbitration clause. They showed up with a high-powered attorney (who had a near-photographic memory) and I was pretty sure he would tear me to shreds. He did his best, but fortunately, I had one thing he didn't have.... the truth. All I did was submit copies of all the e-mails which plainly showed my side of the story. I ended up winning around $25k because I was awarded interest for their delays. Cameron

Hi Charity--Great to have your update! I remember your story, and I'm glad you persisted and won this case. Congratulations!! Feels good when the courts actually rule on the side of truth-- gives me some hopes for the courts in this country. Now go get your money!! $$$$ --> I'd surely follow up on Dave's thoughts. I had never considered that you could do something like that, but wouldn't that be a real satisfaction?! Cameron, stories like that one are always good for the heart and soul. Victory to truth! Raags
