On the advice of a web guru whom I really trust, I'm learning Joomla right now, which is as user friendly as Word Press but which has many more cool plug ins and functionalities -- and is more stable and expandable. Might be worth checking out! ,SuzSuz KNOWS things. Many many useful things. I would pay more attention to her experience than mine, she's much more open-minded!Who loves ya BabY!

Gawrsh, thanks, Steve. But, alas, I don't know the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow, neither European nor African . . .

I'll check out the Joomla, soonest. If you really need to make sure yer sites never offline, I reckon a dedicated server'd be best, but doubt that most of us have that kinda bandwidth requirement, nor the necessary maintenance chops. For folks doing the artist thing, I'm told ReverbNation has the best tools for tracking your promotional efforts, haven't got that going, yet, myself.

Stan,I use the hosting offered by a service that was formerly associated with TAXI, and I'm still there mostly because I've been too busy (or lazy) to change it up. I know one thing, I certainly don't want to learn HTML or any of that crap at this stage, time is too precious. If and when I do a custom site, I have a graphics design friend who would probably do it and trade for some piano lessons and a dinner or two.To speak to your question "what is your experience with placements": I've had a couple of gigs come my way after people were directed to my website and they listened to the music there. It's a cheap way to have a demo always available to anyone who has received your business card or who sees your Facebook page and decides to check you out, etc.I think stanleymmusic.com is a better choice. It's more stylistically generic. For an artist site, jazzstan would be a good one to have, but as a composer of more than jazz, I think something that could be just about anything is better.Just my 5 rupees,Mazz

Reverbnation.com is really slick. It's easy to setup a page and FREE and you can upload a certain amount of songs. What's nice about it is that it directly interfaces with myspace and facebook and many other social networking sites, so you killing many birds with one stone. It gives you really cool tracking and promo tools. And it PAYS you based on the amount of listens your music has. I have thus far earned a whopping .15 cents!! Unfortunately they won't pay you till you reach 20 bucks or something. I want my 15 cents!!Also, lastfm is really good also. What I like about them is that you can setup as many albums as you want and segregate your songs like that. They also have some promo and tracking tools, but not nearly as sophisticated as reverbnation. They also PAY you for streams. Haven't even made it to 15 cents there.I think a personal website is cool, but its a project to setup or to find someone to set it up. And managing it and promoting it are also extra jobs. That's why I go the route I suggested above.B

I've been using a WordsPress with embedded modules from ReverbNation (e.g. media player; newletter subscription). This way you are getting kinda best of both worlds: personalized approach with ease of maintenance. If yu want to take a peek: http://mendosamusic.comI've designed number of non-music websites using Joomla. It's very powerful system, but it comes with a bit more complexity (no wonder) compared to WP.
