I love modern music-- listen to a lot of current rock. My writing style is retro... I guess that's what's inside of me at my age but I listen to music from the 50's/60's to current.

OK, now that I've answered that, why don't you answer this... Give us a list of your placements (show, network, track title, etc) and links to the tracks you've placed. (Not just that one zippity doo dah link)... Everyone else here worth their salt is open.

Bonus: Actually identify yourself and stop hiding behind the anonymity of that space helmut.

People have the right to remain anonymous on boards like this. The problem kicks in when you are obnoxious and claim to be so knowledgable and able to give advice. It's impossible to have credibility that way. Right now you are just a troll we laugh at.

And I'm sure you're pleasant to be around... As pleasant as a fart in a spacesuit.

True.......Most people have spent more time not answering the question....

I personally do not care for much modern mainstream rock music anymore, I do not care for modern pop or hip-hop, I do not listen to modern Jazz.... I do personally listen to and like the guitar oriented modern country and some of the alt country, I listen to and like some of the modern christian rock......... I believe the term with the christian is "contemporary"...

The lyrics in modern rock and pop / hip hop are aimed for a much younger crowd than me, I do not relate to them anymore... been there, done that, got the t-shirt...

Just think if of all that time spent and all those smarts were directed in a positive direction building a song together??

But that's just the point. People choose collaborators based a lot on how easy to get along with folks are. Personal skills matter. If someone comes on here, refuses to identify themselves, makes unfounded negative statements, and consistently acts in an abrasive, obnoxious manner... Well then, WHO would want to work with them?

It's amazing to me how sometimes the very folks who want success so badly, do the very things that absolutely will stand in their way of any success.

Game of Trolls

Post by Mark Kaufman » Fri Apr 20, 2012 12:03 pm

On every internet forum I visit, at any given time, there is always someone playing the role of "house provocateur", in almost exactly the same manner. When one name departs, another one arrives, and you'd swear by the similarities that they must be the same person...but it generally turns out to be different people. The game, on the other hand, is always played this way:

-tell people "how it is" in a provocative and challenging manner
-wryly debate every answer that hints of opposition
-frequently declare uncommon and unprovable opinions as if they are facts
-maintain anonymity
-frequently demand concrete proof (of most anything); rarely (or never) offer proof
-declare stoic, heroic devotion to a noble cause (educating people) while enduring group persecution

Those who play the role usually have no intention whatsoever of consciously doing so, and they will tell you it's no game at all...and they are usually quite sincere in their rugged individualism. But the role is always filled, on every board. And posts like "Why (blank) is Ridiculous" or "All (blank) is a Scam" keep popping up, generating tempests in teacups. It warms my heart and reminds me that there is always something in this world you can rely on. :)

That was so brilliantly articulated and SO true! I've been on the forum since 2004 and I can't tell you how many interchangeable forum posters have come and gone yet, like you said, the posts they make, the attitudes they hold would make one swear that they're all one in the same person.

You did forget to mention one other commonality... each one believes they're "the first" to make the observations they make, to hold the opinions they have, the first to think their way though where others have fallen short. My favorite interchangeable online personality is the one who comes online for no other reason than to "save" the rest of us, he's figured the whole thing out (the first ever to do so) and proceeds to tell a forum full of people with Taxi deals the REAL story, the where and why of how Taxi doesn't work.

That is definitely not me!

I believe that Taxi is a wonderful company. Even though I did not have monumental success with Taxi, I learned a great deal from being a member and submitting music. The returns (rejections) are what gave me the greatest lessons. The critiques taught me a little more about what I could do to improve. I was frustrated after some of them, but my resolve eventually grew stronger. I would recommend Taxi to anyone that wants to learn about music licensing.

I do not have it all figured out. But I am light years ahead of many people because I have the desire to succeed. That desire has helped me to navigate the business, get songs licensed, and earn music royalties. I just wish that people would share their success stories in greater detail here. I see no reason for those that make a steady income from licensing music to hold back.

Here is a link to a wonderful blog that has helped me to gain more knowledge: http://www.getyourmusiclicensed.com/

Enjoy
