Hey Marina,Marina - aniraM wrote:Hello all,.... drum roll please..... I thought of a great solution for oil spill overnight..... as follows.....
Well I have been thinking about your oil spill problem over there in the USA, and I have a possible solution that may work:
I think plugging the hole is too difficult, instead they should just suction all the oil spill out with a long hose, making sure they cover the source of the oil spill with a sort of upside down cup so none escapes.
After they have suctioned all the oil spill out, they could get Kevin Costner (and his brother)s' oil and water seperating machines chugging away, then utilise the oil instead of pollute with it.
Could someone please pass this idea on to Obama, BP, Kevin Costner and Donald Trump, so they can see if they can implement it asap to fix the pollution problem.
Who knows, this might be the answer they were looking for, and it sure would buy them some time while they think about how to plug the hole - if they still want to try and do that.
Best wishes, from Melbourne, Australia from me, Marina Stehle

PS. The oldest Oyster shucking house in New Orleans just closed down last week after 125 years of business. Thanks BP...
The hose is supposedly sucking up almost 1 million gallons, which is what BP is now claiming is coming out. That's not exactly in line with what other experts are saying (2.5 million is best case, 4.2 million is worst case). I think BP's flat run out of things to try themselves, thus trying out Kevin Costner's centrifuge, among other things. The relief wells will be done in August and originally I think they intended to suck out the oil from those two but now it looks like they're going to cement the original rig site closed from the two relief wells. Not sure if they're going to continue to drill out there or shut those relief wells down too. I'm very unclear how all that will work and am doubtful that BP would let a perfectly wretchedly good oil reservoir just be shut down. It might be costing them more than their shareholders are willing to pay, so it's a tossup.Marina - aniraM wrote:Hey Marina,
Well, not to dash your hopes or anything but they've already tried that. They have a sorta small cap on it now. They tried a bigger one but crystals formed inside since it's so cold down there. They're siphoning off about 11,000 gallons a day through a hose back up into a boat, but that's a drop in the bucket. They had previously cut the pipe that was kinked up and blocking where they could put the cap, thus increasing the amount of oil spilling out. They thought that would be temporary but it turns out it's not.
But we sho appreciate you thinkin of ideas and all.

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. Sounds pretty bad.![]()
Have they tried putting a heated spring inside the suction pipe, so it doesn't freeze up?
....It could kind of slightly heat the edges of the pipe, like a coil.
Do you think this would work?

Hey sista,Marina - aniraM wrote:Hi Squids,
the situation sounds pretty bad over there, and I am worried about it also.
Thanks for the update, it looks like everyone is busy thinking of ideas over there already, and it will be fixed soon. I think I better have some camomile tea and calm down with the ideas, and just believe/pray it will all be sorted out.
Hopefully the oil spill mess is also cleaned up soon too.
Thinking of you all.
- Marina.
