But I did think the music had some charm.Of course if the music was meant to be a parody ala Mel Brooks' The Producers (e.g., Springtime for Hitler), I could get behind it.Richard

Re: They Call Her Barracuda
Hey Tom,Like the lyrics, cool stuff my man. I would say that the vocals need a little more energy to them IMHO. Feels like they're coasting along when there are times they should be more ballsy, especially in the chorus. As BillG said, a slide guitar would be very nice too. Would also be good to have the song build as it progresses through instead of being at one level. It's hard to differentiate between verse and chorus IMHO. Has a good overall feel to it but lacks a certain energy, again it feels like the vocals need to break out a little. Thanks for posting this. I wish you luck....Derek

I'm not sure what your point is.Mine is, if this statement is true... "Accordingly, prior to using 'Barracuda' at any events, we paid for and obtained all necessary licenses." it's not being used without permission, nor is being "stolen".

Could you show me where you saw that all those songs were used with permission? My research showed me they didn't, or that they didn't even know what proper permission was required. And if they were used with proper permission, wouldn't they still be using them? I wouldn't care if it was Obama's camp who did it, either. So please don't think my post was about Republican bashing. To me, a political campaign using a "hit" song to promote their candidate is like kissing babies. All show, manipulative crap, that isn't about issues. When I vote, I do my best to make it about what I believe in. I don't want to hear a song I love being pumped into my head while some candidate smiles and tells me why I shouldn't vote for their competition. So when I see a songwriter getting pissed that a political party has started using their song without permission, I side with the PRO's and Musicians. They call it stealing. If you borrow someone's car and go for a ride in it, without asking, it's also stealing. My views expressed here, certainly aren't posted as representative of Taxi's, songwriters in general or anyone else for that matter. Sometimes I just blurt out what I believe in. Some people agree, and lots don't. I'm gonna leave this thread alone now, 'cause I'm quite positive I don't want to get into any political discussions.

Re: They Call Her Barracuda
If a convention center pays a license fee to ascap, bmi, and sesac, they can play any song those companies rep.Simple as that.No research needed, no extra licenses needed. The tv or radio broadcasts that result from those rallys are covered under fair use. It is, after all, a newsworthy event.Whether the writer or performing artist disagrees with the campaign using the song is of no legal importance whatsoever. They agreed to let ascap, bmi or sesac handle royalties from such venues. When artists make a stink, though, that is a sizable public relations problem.Either way, there has been no theft or infringement, provided the venue or the campaign has obtained licensing from bmi ascap or sesac.
