Well... I just caught up on this thread and you guys really crack me up (you know who you are)!! This could be a serious addiction.Yeah, re: Casey's posts... the fun is important... don't kill it. Last year I was too nervous to do the open mics so I started doing hallway jamming... and some of my best fun times last year and this were in working out spontaneous arrangements to people's songs and vice versa-- just sharing music, playing for each other. We had a whole round of political tunes, a round of goony tunes, and other random songs with lots of harmony... cool call and response backups. Pure fun.(Oops, this is the wrong thread for this.... I digress!)

Steve -- That isn't pathetic, it's wise. Watch and wait for the right moment to approach. Then, do it with appreciation, not "WIIFM!" Tell them how they've made a difference for you. Ask them a question -- in other words, make a real connection. Then give 'em a CD!DebraPosted by steve à gilbert on 11/13/07 at 1:28pm That I am pathetically unable to walk up to someone I don't know, and hand them a CD, when they're surrounded by a swarm of other people like me.

The three best things I learned at the Road Rally were:1. Hearing from people that my 25% forward rate for all my submissions is a pretty good number for someone who has been a Taxi member for about a year and a half. Very encouraging to hear!2. There are so many more avenues for my music and ways of marketing my music that I really didn't know about before the Rally.3. Perseverance and networking are key to success with your own music.

Steve, at the next rally you should dress as inspector Clouseau. You sneak around behind those panelists and--zot!--into their pocket slips your hand with a well-packaged CD. When they turn around they will see nothing but a diffident man whistling. He couldn't have had anything to do with it.When they get home of course they will not be able to remember where that CD came from and so it will be the first one they listen to. It works until you get arrested. Hope that helps.
