Ted -I second what Liam says about the "triggers." I had to be very careful when drinking - which basically meant that I cut way down on drinking - and also coffee was a big trigger for me. For a while I just didn't seem right not having a cig with my coffee. All that stuff passes in time and gets easier when you have put a few dozen "successes" under your belt. Basically, you are in the process of developing brand new healthy "triggers" in your life. Keep at it - I'm pulling for ya!dean

Ted that is a cool moment, really. Your addiction caught a second wind, tried to sneak in there, and you beat it, even if your friend's presence was what tilted the balance. You are getting stronger now, and don't be fooled by a little slip sliding of will. The important thing is continuing to not smoke the next time you are tempted. AS you will.

Thanks, Liam, Dean, and Ed.The triggers have been an unexpected hurdle, but (Hallelujah) I have made it past the first few humps. Was BACK at my neighbor's house last night (since I have no TV, I've been watching the Simpsons over there every Sunday night for the past 2 years) and had a much easier time of it. Kept an eye on my consumption, and actually just got up and left when the smoke was getting too thick in the room.I really do believe I'm going to make it this time.11 days and counting.Ted

You guys are amazing. Thank you so much.so, HEY!!! 12 days ... 2.5 hours ... and still alive and kicking. I'm taking that as a good sign. And an unexpected good sign is the fact that 9 times out of ten, when I smell someone else's cigarette, I just want to get away from it. Really? Already? Cool. One thing I do NOT want to become is one of those ex-smoker Nazis, but for the time being, I may be a bit more obnoxious about it than necessary. Luckily, I've never been the type who is incapable of apologizing... I'll talk to you tomorrow.Ted

An ex-smoker Nazi... I may have a bit of that in me now, and I always told myself I wouldn't.Thing is, once it's fully kicked, you tend to look back and wonder about all the mindgames you played on yourself when you smoked. "It's my RIGHT to blow smoke in your face"...or "I only smoke about two thirds of a cigarette"... or "why are non-smokers always so uptight and pissed off?"Oh well. Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe.Nice work, Ted!
