Quote:Quote:There are some issues with the OSX software updater (especially with 10.4.9 and 10.4.10). Instead of using the built-in function to upgrade your OS, download a combo updater from Apple and reinstall. That may help. I'll look for a combo updater. The problem did seem to start the next day after i installed 10.4.10. Do you think this OS is TOO TAXING for my G-5 dual 1.8?Quote:You could also try trashing the preferences for both Logic and Audio Midi setup, and then repair permissions on your drives.Yes, yes, another great idea. thx AubI haven't bit the bullet yet on 10.4.10, but if previous updates are any indication, I would doubt there is a performance hit--- if anything there may likely be an improvement. I have a dual 2.0, and drive it pretty hard with few problems. 10.4 actually seemed to speed things up a bit. 10.4.9 is the latest OS currently qualified for Pro Tools, and I try to stay a few steps behind and let all the other guys beta test for me Another pref you might trash is the 828 - especially since you updated the driver.Good luck. I hope the combo updater helps.Aub

Steve,The preferences could be in two different places: 1. The Library for the top level of the computer, i.e: Steve's Mac or 2. The Library for your log in i.e.: SteveMake sure the applications aren't running, trash the preferences, repair the permissions (using Disk Utility) and then open the applications so they can create a new preferences file.Hope this does it!John

They aren't in the library/preferences folder I have the old version of Logic-- which I seldom use. My logic preferences are in the username/library/preferences folder and not the root. Also they are prefixed with info.emagic.logic. You should be able to do a *logic* finder search and find them-- it's possible they might live in a library/application support folder. The motu preference may be in the user library too. You could search for *.plist to find the location of any and all preferences.Aub

Quote:Quote:Do you guys use any disk imaging software to save your systems and programs drives intact? I've seen a buddy of mine do a complete re-install on a PC, with the touch of one keystroke with software like that, but I have yet to learn how with a Mac. I believe OSX 10.5 coming out in October is going to do this.Let us know how this turns out.Check out Carbon Copy Cloner. It's shareware, but I know a lot of audio guys who use it. I don't clone, but just backup all my session files--- not the best practice though.I would also recommend Disk Warrior, not for backup, but for general maintenance. One of the best $40 I ever spent. A year or so back I had some disk errors that disk utility couldn't repair, and my system was very unstable. DW fixed it. I now rebuild and repair the disk directories with DW every few months at least. Aub

I do occasionally use my rig on-line, but I'm very careful, use Firefox, and... umm... it's a Mac so the whole virus thing is not really a big deal yet.Now on my PeeSee, I have 14 firewalls, 73 virus scanners and an electronic chastity belt installed... but that's another discussion Aub

All my Mac chums tell me not to bother with any virus protection, because there are very rarely any viruses written for Macs, and that the extra software can hog CPU abilities.I humbly apologize to all of you who have to scroll through all these not so pertinent posts to get to your favorite Top 100.

no apology necessary, i have been following quite closely as I use the MOTU 828, and i am running 10.4.10 on a dual 1.42 G4.I don't use logic at the moment, but have been thinking of upgrading the old DP 4.52 that i am running. So i have enjoyed, no enjoyed is not the right term, I am not taking any pleasure from your predicament. but i appreciate this thread as it could be me one day. I am very curious of the outcome.Good Luck,Rob
