Re: Two Minute Piano Concerto ala Mozart
Well Vince, it sounded great to me, but I'm not a classical guy so can't critique. Just enjoyed listening. If it means anything, it gives me an image of a bunch of be-wigged aristocrats at an important function in the Governor's palace - some are dancing, some are milling in the lobby and on the curved staircases, others are whispering in small groups in corners and then the Governor's daughter floats down the stairs to be met by a dashing Captain.

Now that's some powdered wig wearing goodness there. Nailed the style. I still don't understand what video game is looking for this style, but if that's the style they really want, this is definitely it. Can't wait to hear the real mock up.

Thanks to you all for listening and for the compliments. Now on to the arduous task of mocking this baby up.

Vince,
This really hits the mark!
I noticed it's not a call for mall music, it's for a video game. For this kind of listing, would you compress the volume? How much dynamic range do you think they'd want--anyone have ideas on this?

Re: Two Minute Piano Concerto ala Mozart
Rene,
Form my orchestral track, I use very, very little brickwall compression at the end of the mastering process--between .5-2db. And I only use that because it fills out the lower end of the mix nicely. Of course, I use a multipressor along with a general EQ before the brickwall, but again the multipressor is used very sparingly and for corrective purposes.
A HUGE part of orchestral music depends on dynamic contrast. I think it would be totally uncharacteristic and frankly, sound terrible, to squash the dynamic range. Besides, from what I've been reading in tech magazines and such, this whole over the top compressing is slowly being phased out. (Not soon enough in my opinion!)

Vince,
Thanks for your specifics. Boy, what would Mozart have given to fiddle around with Finale, Pro Tools and Ozone!
Best of Luck,
Renee
