What! Omnisphere does not have Brass samples

Post by greatmoves » Mon May 30, 2011 8:32 pm

Hi all, I own Stylus and Omnisphere. However, While vetting a song Idea, I was very disappointed to find out that Omnisphere does not have any Brass Samples. I think this is a shame.

All they have is Stylus for drums and rhythm, Omnisphere for Production work (so they say), and Trilogy for bass.

How can they deliver this product without brass? It's an outright disgrace.

Has anyone else discovered this after the fact?

Perhaps there's a lesson about trying to be all things to all people; on my best days, I am one kickass renaissance dude, (and I can even spell renaissance) but I don't try to go all orchestral; as the great (and fictional) Dirty Harry once said, "A man's got to know his limitations." :D

Isn't that a synth? Wouldn't have samples anyway.
You could make your own patches, right? I don't have it, but it's next on the acquisition list.

Well, this is a special kind of synth. It actually has sampled instruments (like light bolbs, strings and so on).

Omnisphere is one of my best buy ever!!

But, if you're doing orchestra things, you should use programs made for that. EW, SAM horns, Samplemodeling, KH libraries and so on.
I would never use the strings in omnisphere as a main lead instrument, but it does work as an under-layer.

I love Omni as well as Stylus and Trilogy - I use them all in almost everything I do - including orchestral stuff. But you're right, no brass stuff. But there are synth brass patches - just not samples.

But as Mojo said, I think it's perhaps more important to know what not to put in what to put in. Omni is a Fantastic plug, just not for everything.

IMO using Omnisphere for "regular" sounds kind of misses the point of the instrument. Of course, it has some pianos, strings, voices, etc., but it's true power is the synthesis capabilities. For bread and butter stuff, I highly recommend Kontakt, it's factory library contains a pretty complete selection of great sounding instruments that will be better suited to "regular" sounds.

Omnisphere is marketed as a 'Dream Synth Module' or a 'Power Synth'...NOT an all around 'workstation'.

It's missing many sounds one would expect in an all around workstation...because that's not what it is...

I consider the many 'bread and butter' type sounds which Omni does include as a bonus...(and most of them are actually exactly that as they were already in Spectrasonics' archives from sample library products they had previously released).

+1 for Kontakt 4 as a great "workstation"...

+2 for Kontakt. I started using it a few months ago and love it.

With the most recent update, Omnisphere has over 8,000 "patches" available!!!! AND probably more to come.(and all free updates)

AND you're complaining about the lack of brass patches???

Hey, Chuck and others,

I am not complaining, it's an observation. So I guess the Spectrasonics Support does not know what they are talking about because I inquired as to what type of arrangements this product was capable of (I asked a lot of questions before I made the Purchase) and I guess I failed to ask the right question(s) or they chose to just not mention what instrumentation it was lacking.

Either way, It's still an "Just come to my attention realization" I never said I did not like the Synth. I was just dumbfounded as to why Brass would be left out.

Stop being so judgmental... :o
