I think I screwed myself and went with Good Intentions and Much More Than That, since they wouldn't let me submit Razor's Edge, even though it's so NOT a love song.

Re: What would you submit for this listing?
Listen to the Blues Heidi McCurdy is the singer Got 2 dispatch forwards for this song yesterday: this listing (D070914PO) as well as the one that started the thread, to the same company. Then the same day, I got this paragraph in a review of the same song:Quote:This song is really close. some fantastic things about it, but i don't think you have nailed it yet. You have some great ideas, but did not assemble them in a way to get the most out of them and the balance of the song as a whole suffers. I do think with a bit of reworking, this could be very good. I'm not confused, and certainly not ranting. After all, I just got 2 forwards. I'm just pointing out that different songs find homes, even when other reviewers think a tune still needs work. And I agree with what the reviewer said about the song. It's All Good

How did I miss this thread...(aha, i didn't see it as a dispatch, it is now a regular listing as well TAXI # Y071016SS)I was going to post a few tracks to this listing, probably:Real Worldhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=5913 ... and/orWord About ithttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=2875 ... and/orGood Girlhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=32357&stream=trueI didn't pull the trigger on them because these songs do not follow the "strong hook" request.Rob

Quote: the tune gets a lot of forwards, but no placement yet Steve, it's just a matter of time, that is one good song.songwriter, Thanks for the compliment, i got to this thread late, so i didn't get to hear which tracks you were submitting (links are now broken).I was a big fan or your Danny Boy(s), so I would love to hear what you were sending to this listing.I think I will spend the 10 - 15 bucks on 2 or 3 of these tracks, we have gotten forwards and returns with them. Although the toughest listings for us to crack are the "Strong Hooky Chorus" ones.Rob

Re: What would you submit for this listing?
Guys, I have to jump in here, because this thread/listing touches on something I've been wondering about.I assumed that 'hooky choruses' wouldn't be as much in demand in the film/tv arena as they are for artist listings. What say ye? Is this listing an exception, or the norm? I guess I was thinking that music sups would be placing more emphasis on mood, and how a particular piece compliments a scene, and not really caring about a memorable hook. Whereas the hook is probably the first thing label/artist/radio people think of.In fact, couldn't the argument be made that a really hooky song might detract from the scene it's used in?I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this. Maybe my perception of how and where these library tracks are used is far too limited..Thanks in advance for the insight!Rob

Rob,Excellent point, I wondered the same thing myself, as i have been sending many of our "non hooky" songs more towards listings for libraries. This is the first one i noticed were i library was looking for hooks.

Re: What would you submit for this listing?
Rob: I completely agree. I've had this discussion with a composer friend, who thinks it is funny when reviews for TV/film listings come back with criticisms that the verse and feeling of the song are great, but it doesn't develop the way a reviewer might like. As you say, for some purposes, the right vibe is far more important than a hook, and many songs don't get more than 30 to 45 seconds of air play in film/TV, so you might never get to the hook/chorus anyway. steve à gilbert: Thanks for posting your experience with the song that was forwarded twice then rejected. I also had a rejection recently on a song that another reviewer praised, so it just goes to show you. All part of the game, I suppose, in which only the tenacious survive.
