Hey CosmicDolphin,

Perfect!!!!
This is GREAT!

Tim
Hey Tim

Thanks and I am glad you like it...We studied the structure of 50's songs, chords, melodies, made sure the lyrics appropriate to the era, played live guitars, bass , used a kit from Addictive Drums 2 that was based a similar setup to what they would have had.

Then I managed to get hold of a talented singer via a friend of a friend who does rock n roll shows as his full time gig and he sang it for us for a split on any future royalties etc.

After that I listened carefully to mixes of songs like Johnny B Goode ..how loud things were in the mix etc. Remember they were not multi tracking so it was all about mic distances and capturing a whole performance.

Then I use some EQ matching in Fabfilter Pro Q2 to match the overall frequency response.

Now the reason I asked the OP to listen first is for full disclosure..this was for a very similar listing , at least one of the ref tracks was the same song...but back in August 2017.

It was returned..I don't recall the reason..but I just wanted to show where the bar was because I think this was pretty close and it still never made it past the screener.
And what difference would it have done if you didn't pull that stunt?
You could just have told me what you were up to, right?

Your songs sound "better" and tighter and it should be because of I kind of shot from the hip an evening during this last weekend.
But I get a vague feeling of stuff in your song that they just didn't know how to do until the 70s which is generally not a problem unless it is for a TAXI listing ...
And that could be a little part of a clue to why the song was returned? Dunno?
It's vague because it sounds good like everybody knows exactly what they're doing and they do it with the confidence of having done that ... MANY TIMES!
To me it kind of sounds like 70s musicians more than 50s musicians ... or maybe 50s musicians with a crystal ball, time machine or knowledge from a time that still hadn't happened ...
It's hard to avoid and I guess generally I have too much low end like we CAN have nowadays because I like it and therefore don't notice.
And it's vague and don't trust me, I don't !!!

I was more worried that my would sound like it was trying to sound too old with one foot in some jazz with a backbeat that I don't have a name for hehe.
My vocals are kind of seasick upon listening to them again ... I might have to send for the cavalry???
They'll shoot me when they hear it haha!

No I wanted a genuine reaction before I let on it was a return. .Tim provided one, which was pretty similar to the reactions at the time when I asked for feedback.

Heeh, if Spongebob Squarepants makes a guest appearence in this animated series, this would be a candidate theme, I think. Very creative track, and definitely suitable for animation methinks.. I liked the regular version best, as the radio were over the top tubey dark imo.

For the listing I think the sounds are too fat for the 50s, listening to the references, the sounds were way thinner. Also there was some psychedelic elements in the mix (like modal jazz solos) that ported the timeframe in the song to the late 60s for me.

I did one too for this listing, but blew the vocal track completely, so this is hard to nail, right. I did a lot of the research cosmic listed too, but equally hard was to write lyrics in 1950s lingua. So many variables here.

Every effort gotta get kudos, though, as they are asking for reinventions of the birth of rockn roll! NOT a small task

Spongebob Squarepants haha! Yes! 8-)
No matter what I think of the rest of your comments I know they're right and some of them I even suspected myself so that's why I posted to begin with.
Especially the fat bottomed sound that just would jump the stylus out of the track of a 50s gramophone haha ... at the same time I like it!
I guess it has to go if I want this song to pass.
Thanks for the listen

Yeah, Im just doing critical listening (listening with specific criteria in mind), so the comments does not neccesarily represent my personal views and taste.. its the sort of thing you need to do for providing a service with art.
