I never think of the John Lennon tune as a protest song, although that might not have been implied above. I see that more as a wish for peace than protest.... Now, if it went on and on and about blood spilled during war, that would be different... And the song, "All I Want For Christmas is a Taxi Forward", is probably not a protest song either... Casey

I dunno. During that one time of the year when Jesus who died for our sins was born, shouldn't we forget about peace, love and brotherhood and just concentrate on the spirit of the crass commercialism the holiday is all about? By the way, I think the Mariah Carey song is one of my all time favorites, Christmas or not. Realism, but kept personal. That song slays me I like it so much. But I did not include it as a Christmas classic. Of the ones I did not include, I believe that one will make it to classic status, if it hasn't already. It speaks for so many people. Our definitions are pretty loose, so who really knows? Only Santa and perhaps the Mrs.
